During the traditional visit for exchanging holiday greetings between political parties, a delegation from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) visited and exchanged holiday greetings with a delegation from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

The CHP delegation, consisting of CHP Vice President Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, CHP Women’s Branch Central Executive Committee Member Azize Çeroğlu, and CHP Youth Branch Central Executive Committee Member Eda Albayrak, exchanged holiday greetings with the MHP. The CHP delegation met with a delegation from the MHP, including MHP Vice President Mevlüt Karakaya, Chief Advisor to the Party Leader and Member of the Central Decision-Making and Administrative Committee Esma Özdaşlı, and Central Executive Committee Member Fatih Çetinkaya.

“We are actually in a process where we often hear the phrase ‘where are those old holidays'”
CHP Vice President Deniz Yavuzyılmaz emphasized that the tradition of exchanging holiday greetings between parties has now become a legacy passed on to young politicians in Turkey. He stated, “Politics has its truths and beauties as well as its difficulties and challenges,” and further expressed, “In Turkey, especially in the current tense political environment, some situations such as statements that go beyond bounds and the hardening of language actually, during such holidays, provide an opportunity for more open communication, more dialogue, and more embracing. Holidays are beautiful, but unfortunately, in this holiday, there is a sense of unhappiness and hopelessness among our citizens due to the economic crisis. Particularly, statements from the government side indicating that there will be no improvement in the minimum wage, causing the lowest retiree pension to fall well below the subsistence level. The fact that our retirees cannot make ends meet and that very traumatic economic hardships are experienced in various segments of society due to the economic crisis, makes it quite difficult to say that the holiday creates the same excitement among all segments of society. We are actually in a process where we often hear the phrase ‘where are those old holidays.’ Therefore, I hope that starting from this holiday, the priorities in the economy will turn into a process where the problems of young people in need, struggling with livelihood issues and unemployment, are rapidly resolved. In order for this to happen, it is the raison d’être of political parties to contribute to the solution of these problems and to put forward claims in this direction. In this sense, I would like to express that we are always ready for a collective effort and will continue our struggle to voice the problems and difficulties of our citizens in order to turn this into a process where the economy’s priorities are met.

“Significant issues were discussed in both the subcommittees and the top committees of the State Economic Enterprises (KİT)”
MHP Vice President Mevlüt Karakaya mentioned a busy working pace of 5 years, stating, “Significant issues were discussed in both the subcommittees and the top committees of the KİT. They were debated and decisions were made. Although there is no concrete legislation regarding these KİTs yet, as you mentioned, to put it in perspective, the Treasury is actually the owner of the KİTs. The Treasury is actually the owner of the work and companies. On behalf of whom? Ultimately, on behalf of this nation, on behalf of the state, it carries out its ownership. Historically, the Treasury has a more guiding role using the ownership card, but the KİTs also have a completely separate status. KİTs are managed by their boards of directors. Ministries, in other words, the relevant units to which the KİT belongs, cannot interfere with their execution. They only deal with supervision and oversight. In that sense, making a regulation may not create much of a problem in this regard. Because the Treasury may have a more controlling approach, whereas executive ministries may have a different approach. Efforts to relax the boundaries in terms of that distinction may be made. In your perspective, when the Treasury controls and manages this business, it is important that the sectoral or relevant ministries bring out the results. Of course, not being the Chairman of the Board of Directors weakens the general managers a bit in terms of management. But in terms of the balance of the audit mechanism, in some of the KİTs, such a practice already exists. There are KİTs where the general manager is not the Chairman of the Board of Directors. So, the results, the outcomes are seen as successful, hence such a thing was implemented.”
