The exhibition of mixed students of the Disability and Disability Rights Course has opened
The opening of the Mixed Student Exhibition of Disability and Disability Rights Course, organized for the first time this year at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University, took place. The exhibition, aimed at increasing social awareness, highlighted the problems faced by disabled individuals, and emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible environment for everyone.

The opening of the first Disability and Disability Rights Course Mixed Student Exhibition, organized this year at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University, took place. The exhibition, which aims to increase social awareness, vividly highlighted the problems faced by disabled individuals.
At the event held in the university’s foyer area, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Topal Sarıkaya and Director of the Disability Application and Research Center, Assistant Professor Sevgi Nur Sadedil, gave a speech. After the speeches, academicians and students visited the exhibition.
In her speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Topal Sarıkaya stated, ‘The curriculum of the Disability and Disability Rights course has been prepared with the contributions and participation of academicians from the Departments of Psychology, Public Relations and Advertising, Visual Communication and Design, Law, and Graphic Design. It is very important that this course is prepared through interdisciplinary studies.’
Director of the Disability Application and Research Center, Assistant Professor Sevgi Nur Sadedil, referring to the purpose of the exhibition, stated, ‘The concept of disability draws attention to the barriers placed in the living spaces of disabled individuals and the society’s lack of knowledge and wrong attitudes. The Disability and Disability Rights Course Mixed Student Exhibition aims to raise awareness about these wrong attitudes.’
‘Disability and Disability Rights’ course and exhibition project
The Disability and Disability Rights course aimed to provide a comprehensive perspective on disability with the contributions of expert faculty members from various fields. Within the scope of the course, students gained knowledge on subjects such as disability and mental health, socialization, inclusive language use, prevention of disabilities, disabled rights, and combating discrimination.
While Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Topal Sarıkaya coordinated the course, Assistant Professors Gülay Doğan and Duygu Sezgin were responsible faculty members for the exhibition.
At the end of the course, students photographed the problems encountered by disabled individuals in their surroundings and transformed these photos using artificial intelligence applications to prepare a unique exhibition. The exhibition was organized to draw attention to the difficulties faced by disabled individuals and to raise awareness in society.
The exhibition, which included the works of 49 students, aimed to increase sensitivity to disability rights and contribute to positive changes in society.
