As the Feast of Sacrifice approaches, activity continues at the Erzincan Animal Market. It is expected that the activity will increase even more on the eve of the feast. The teams affiliated with the Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate Animal Health, Breeding, and Aquatic Products Branch continue their inspections at the Erzincan Animal Market. During the inspections at the animal market, the compliance of cattle and sheep offered for sale with health criteria is checked, and passport controls of the animals offered for sale are carried out, with warnings given to the animal owners. Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Murat Şahin also conducted inspections at the animal market. Director Şahin, who met with sellers and buyers at the market, stated that they conduct inspections for the animals brought for sale as sacrificial animals. Şahin said, ‘We conduct inspections at the road checkpoints at the entrances and exits of the city. We do not allow animal owners without health certificates and transport permits. We conduct health screenings to ensure healthier sacrificial animals can be obtained.’ Director Murat Şahin stated, ‘In large cattle intended for sacrifice, our criteria require that they must be over two years old. Animals that have shed their milk teeth are considered to have reached the required age and can be sacrificed. As for small ruminants, they must be at least one year old. It is possible to determine their age and characteristics through the ear tag inquiry menu on the Tarım Cebim application. Additionally, they should not be sick. Pregnant animals, especially, should not be sacrificed.’ Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Murat Şahin noted that the animal health teams will continue their inspections at the designated slaughter points throughout the Feast of Sacrifice period.
