Emine Erdogan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited the Prado Museum in Madrid with Maria Begona Gomez Fernandez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Accompanying President Erdogan on his official visit to Madrid, the capital of Spain, for the Turkey-Spain 8th Government Summit, Emine Erdogan toured the Prado Museum, which is considered one of the world’s leading museums, with Maria Begona Gomez Fernandez. In the museum, which houses works of Spanish artists such as El Greco, Diego Velazquez, Francisco de Zurbaran, Goya, as well as Dutch artists like Bosch and Rubens, created by bringing together royal collections, Emine Erdogan received information from Fernandez about the artworks in the museum. Later, the first ladies posed for photos in front of the paintings ‘The Ladies’ by the 17th-century Spanish painter Velazquez and ‘Still Life with Lemons, Oranges, and a Rose’ by Zurbaran. Fernandez, the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister, presented Emine Erdogan with a similar object to the one in the painting ‘Still Life with Vessels’ by Francisco de Zurbaran from 1650. The first ladies also interacted with students visiting the Prado Museum and took photos with them. After the museum visit, Emine Erdogan had lunch with Fernandez. Emine Erdogan shared about the museum visit on her social media account. During her visit to Madrid on the occasion of the Turkey-Spain 8th Government Summit, she mentioned meeting with Fernandez, the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister, and visiting the prestigious Prado Museum. She expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality of Fernandez, stating that every artwork in the museum, reflecting the country’s identity, presents a piece of Spain’s history.
