Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik made statements regarding the agenda after the Weekly Committee Meeting. Mayor Özçelik stated that they have completed all preparations before the holiday, saying, ‘We, as all municipal staff, will make every effort to ensure a comfortable and smooth holiday period.’ The Weekly Committee Meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik. At the end of the meeting, Mayor Özçelik made statements to the press regarding the agenda, providing information about the measures taken for the Sacrifice Holiday and the services provided before the holiday. Mayor Özçelik said, ‘As on the eve of every religious holiday, we will continue the distribution of flower seedlings and will introduce approximately 68,000 seedlings to our citizens. We will provide this service in all cemeteries. Our services regarding the sacrificial animals at our sales points continue. We have set up 4 separate sales points. Our services for cleanliness and watering of the animals continue for the sellers and the citizens coming to buy sacrificial animals. Additionally, in 4 different regions of Alanya, sacrificial slaughter areas have been designated. In Mahmutlar, Gazipaşa Dolmuş Stop, Eşgilik Wedding Hall, and Payallar Additional Service Building, through our competent individuals, we will continue to provide the sacrificial slaughter service as safely and quickly as possible. Furthermore, 51 containers were distributed to ensure hygiene conditions in special slaughter areas. In the slaughter areas, our veterinary and health services will be available to deal with any minor accidents.’
‘We will make traffic arrangements during the holiday period.’ Mayor Özçelik, expressing that they anticipate a heavy flow of visitors to Alanya during the holiday, said, ‘For this reason, we will make traffic arrangements. In addition to extra traffic controls, some streets may be closed to traffic to prevent congestion if necessary. Meanwhile, we kindly request our guests on vacation to travel by public transport rather than by car, especially for their trips within the city, as much as possible. Although the weather is hot, we recommend using public transport rather than spending 1 hour to reach a destination that takes only 10 minutes by car. Our security forces will work together with our municipal police for the organization within the city during the holiday. The District Governor has a high sensitivity in this regard. As all municipal staff, we will make every effort to ensure that the holiday period is spent without any troubles or issues. Our municipal police officers have voluntarily requested to work extra hours for this purpose.’
Mayor Özçelik answered questions. When asked about the measures taken regarding some citizens choosing beaches and parks as overnight accommodation during the holiday, Mayor Özçelik replied, ‘Our Municipal Police Chief assured me that such scenes will not occur. Whatever I used to think about this issue before becoming the Mayor, now, as I am responsible, I will make every effort to prevent such scenes in parks, beaches, and other areas. Our municipal police officers have voluntarily requested to work extra hours. We will make every effort.’
‘We have a project for gathering area for next year.’ Answering a question about whether there is a gathering area for visitors from out of town without hotel reservations, Mayor Özçelik said, ‘Such a practice has not been implemented in previous periods. We are considering it for next year. In the work we have done so far, we were planning a parking area for large vehicles and buses both based on the requests we received and our promises. Our work on this issue has reached a certain point. Although not this year, next year when we implement this practice, we will recommend this place to the visitors who come for advice. Of course, there will be security and guard measures in place. We have a project for this next year.’
‘I do not compromise on hygiene.’ Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik also spoke about the inspections carried out for illegal constructions and hygiene before the holiday, saying, ‘Unfortunately, there are problematic situations in terms of hygiene in some parts of Alanya. One of the things I will never compromise on is hygiene. If I don’t eat from that bakery, you should not eat either. I have had discussions with our colleagues regarding the demolition of 34 illegal buildings and concrete structures from Dim River to the water basin, and we have implemented the practice. If that facility had been opened, as there is no sewage system there, the wastewater, toilet waste, and all relevant dirt would have gone to the pits opened there and would have mixed with the dam water. We would all have been drinking that water. I will not feed you something I wouldn’t eat, I will not make you drink something I wouldn’t drink.’
Mayor Özçelik congratulated Father’s Day, saying, ‘On this occasion, as a father of two daughters, I also extend my special greetings to all fathers on Father’s Day. They always say fathers are the tree, the pillar of the house. I wish the tree, the pillar of the house remains unbroken. May fathers always love their children, and children always love their fathers.’
