Kayseri Chamber of Commerce (KTB) President Recep Bağlamış stated that there are no hygiene issues in animal markets.
During his visit to the Kayseri Journalists Association, KTB President Recep Bağlamış stated that there are 4 animal markets in Kayseri and there are no hygiene problems in these markets. Bağlamış said, ‘There are 4 animal sales points for sacrificial animals in our city. 1 belongs to Talas Municipality, 1 belongs to Kocasinan Municipality, and 2 belong to Melikgazi Municipality. The Agriculture Provincial Directorate, through its veterinarians in the field, monitors these places. They try to prevent the sale of animals that do not have the qualifications for sacrifice, are pregnant, or have missing limbs. In fact, our producers are careful not to offer animals that do not meet the criteria for sacrifice for sale. We specifically ask our citizens to ask for the passport of the animal if they have any concerns about the sacrifice, in order to obtain information about the animals. At the same time, they can contact the Agriculture Provincial Directorate, call the Chamber of Commerce, and seek support from us if they see any suspicious animals. There are no hygiene problems in our animal markets.’
Bağlamış mentioned that producers do not have an expectation to sell animals at high prices, ‘Our citizens are a bit sensitive about the prices this year. However, there is no negativity in terms of prices for our producers. We had announced the price of a large cattle share in the range of 25-30 thousand TL. An average of 40 kilograms of sacrificial meat corresponds to 24-25 thousand TL. We see it being sold in butcher shops. Therefore, the current carcass price is about 10-15% higher during the sacrificial sales. However, our citizens think that their income is not enough for sacrificial animals due to the producers. But producers do not have an expectation to sell at high prices. The carcass prices had dropped to around 50 TL 15 days ago. It has started to recover now. Our producers never desire to sell sacrificial animals at very high prices during the sacrificial period.’
