CHP Karabük Deputy and Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Planning and Budget Committee Cevdet Akay brought the problems and demands of forest villagers in Eskipazar and Yenice districts to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly. Speaking at the TBMM General Assembly, Deputy Akay raised the allegations regarding Karabük’s forests and shared the problems of forest villagers. CHP member Akay, who brought the allegations of unnecessary logging in the forests of Eskipazar and Yenice to the TBMM, said, ‘My electoral district Karabük has the largest block forests in our country. 71% of the land of our province is covered by forests. Our city, which is always on the tongues with its nature and unique beauty, has recently been on the agenda with sad allegations regarding our forests.’ Calling for Action from Authorities Akay, expressing the allegations of forest villagers, stated, ‘Our forest villagers in Eskipazar and Yenice districts claim that thousands of trees are unnecessarily cut under the name of ‘thinning’ and natural selection is disrupted. If such a situation exists, I invite the authorities to take action to prevent this.’ ‘Forest and Village Roads Damaged by the Flood Have Not Been Repaired Yet’ Akay, who also brought to the agenda that the forest and village roads damaged in the flood disaster in Yenice last year have not been repaired yet, said, ‘In the flood disaster that occurred in Yenice in June 2023, our forest roads suffered great damage. Unfortunately, these roads have not been repaired since that date. Therefore, our villagers are experiencing a great hardship. I call on the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to urgently address the grievances of forest villagers.’
