Established in consideration of the decisions of the Provincial Sacrifice Services Commission by the Büyükçekmece Municipality, the Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility has shrunk by 50% this year, serving with 60 tents, 2 large animal slaughterhouses, and 1 small animal slaughterhouse.
Located at the Karaağaç neighborhood Hadımköy toll booths at Büyükçekmece district, the Büyükçekmece Municipality Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility has been prepared for the Feast of Sacrifice with all hygiene measures taken.
With the Feast of Sacrifice approaching, all preparations completed at the Büyükçekmece Municipality Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility, it has shrunk by 50% this year due to increased costs, decreased purchasing power, and economic difficulties.
“No sales so far”
Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Dr. Hasan Akgün, who conducted inspections at the Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility, listened to producers bringing sacrificial animals from different provinces to Büyükçekmece. Mayor Akgün stated, “Therefore, due to such high prices and the increase in prices, the sales of sacrificial animals have decreased by at least 50%. Last year, 1500 large animals were sold and slaughtered in Büyükçekmece. This year, a maximum of 600-700 is expected. Last year, more than 1000 small animals were slaughtered and sold. This year, it is said that around 200 will be sold and slaughtered. There have been no sales so far. Inflation, the devaluation of the Turkish currency, and the situation have severely affected both sacrificial animals and sellers.”
“I would like to particularly emphasize that we closely monitor this issue”
Mayor Akgün, stating that all preparations have been completed at the Büyükçekmece Municipality Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility, continued his statement as follows:
“Since it is a completely sterile area, the problem created by sacrificial animal sale and slaughter areas located within residential areas in various parts of Turkey and Istanbul is not experienced by the citizens here. Therefore, I expect our citizens to visit the Büyükçekmece Sacrifice Slaughter Area. As you know, the law has regulated when the animals coming to the sacrificial sales areas will enter Istanbul, from where, and how their inspections will be carried out. These are being done. Our municipality’s veterinarians inspect all sacrificial slaughter and sales areas, examining them daily for any diseases. Then they report to the District Directorate of Agriculture and do what needs to be done. They need to know that every sacrificial animal sold is inspected from a sanitary perspective under the state’s supervision. I would like to particularly emphasize that we closely monitor this issue. There are an adequate number of sacrificial slaughter areas. There are 3 sacrificial slaughter areas here. Sacrificial slaughter areas have been established in an integrated manner in 3 different locations. We have no problems.”
All preparations have been completed
While Büyükçekmece Municipality takes necessary precautions to prevent any negativity before and after the holiday, cleanliness, disinfection, and maintenance work are meticulously carried out in slaughter and sales areas equipped with modern facilities. In the Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Service Area where sacrificial animals are exhibited in 60 tents under the supervision of veterinarians, there are 2 large animal and 1 small animal slaughterhouses. The Büyükçekmece Municipality Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Service Area also includes a parking lot, toilets, health cabin, mosque, shower, cafeteria, cold storage, and administrative building. The Veterinary Chiefship teams of the Büyükçekmece Municipality Health Affairs Directorate also conduct inspections at the Sacrifice Sale and Slaughter Facility, closely monitoring the health conditions of sacrificial animals.
