With only a few days left until Eid al-Adha, Nutrition and Diet Specialist Gülcan Yıldız from Saygı Hospital warned the public about ‘how to eat during the holiday’. Yıldız emphasized the importance of eating balanced and healthy during Eid al-Adha, just as it should always be. She highlighted the necessity of not consuming the sacrificial meat immediately after it is slaughtered, but resting it for 1 day and consuming it with appropriate cooking methods.
As Eid al-Adha approaches, Nutrition and Diet Specialist Gülcan Yıldız from Saygı Hospital made important statements on ‘how to eat to protect our health during the holiday’. Yıldız stated, ‘Eating balanced and healthy is crucial during Eid al-Adha, as it should always be. The most important thing to pay attention to during the holiday is not to consume the sacrificial meat immediately after it is slaughtered, but to rest it for at least 1 day and then consume it using suitable cooking methods such as boiling, grilling, or baking’.
“Choose lean or low-fat meats”
“Choosing lean or low-fat meats is important,” said Yıldız. She added, ‘Portion control and using plenty of vegetables or salads with meat are important to avoid digestive problems. Since meat consumption increases during this holiday period, it is important to use vegetables with high fiber content alongside meat to increase fiber intake. Considering that this period coincides with summer and the amount of meat consumption increases, water intake should not be neglected. Adult individuals should consume an average of 2-2.5 liters of water per day. Instead of sugary and carbonated drinks served with meat, low-sodium mineral water should be preferred’.
“Try to stay active during the holiday”
Yıldız mentioned, ‘Although it may be difficult to say no to desserts during the holiday, milk-based or fruit-based desserts should be consumed with attention to the amount, rather than syrup-based desserts. Meals should not be skipped, and 2 additional snacks should be consumed between main meals. This way, both your digestive system will function better, and your feeling of fullness will increase. Try to stay active during the holiday. Maintain your physical activity with light walks or simple exercises. Increasing physical activity to balance holiday indulgences is important. Increasing daily physical activity is extremely important for overall health and fitness. Especially on special occasions like holidays, engaging in extra physical activities to offset the extra calories can be beneficial. Making small changes such as walking short distances or using stairs instead of the elevator can increase daily activity and boost your metabolism. These habits support a healthy lifestyle and can help you maintain your physical health while enjoying holiday visits’.
