Mesut Kocagöz will take his place at tomorrow’s Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Council Meeting

After the cable car accident in Antalya Kepez where one person died, Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was arrested, was released at the first hearing. CHP Deputy Chairman Gökhan Zeybek stated that he informed CHP Chairman Özgür Özel during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the CHP Headquarters after 18 years, while Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek shared the information that Kocagöz will take his place at the Metropolitan municipality council tomorrow.
The trial of 12 defendants, including CHP Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who is among the 5 arrested, in connection with the cable car accident in Antalya where 1 person died and 7 were injured, continued at the 6th Heavy Penal Court. The court decided to release the defendant Suphi Kaplan, while it decided to continue the detention of Serkan Yellice, Okan Erol, Ahmet Buğra Samsunlu, and Serdar Tezcan. The court, which decided to try Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz without detention with a travel ban, adjourned the hearing to a later date to address the deficiencies.
CHP senior executives accompanied the group filling the courtroom and courthouse. CHP Deputy Chairman Gökhan Zeybek, who came to Antalya for Kocagöz’s hearing, said, ‘Our Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was elected as Kepez Mayor with the votes of the people, has been released today with the decision of the court. He will enter and exit the prison where he has been detained and will come to Kepez Municipality to greet the citizens. After the cable car accident on April 12th, he was detained for a long time, we believe he was unjustly detained. Today, the court’s decision in his favor for release was a beginning for the services he will provide to Kepez. He endured difficult conditions, suffered significant weight loss due to health problems. We welcome the release decision with pleasure. As soon as we received the news, we informed our Chairman Özgür Özel, who was meeting with our President. We will celebrate the court’s decision today with the district residents waiting in front of Kepez Municipality, municipality employees, and most importantly, his beloved family’.
