Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan spoke at the opening of the ‘Extraordinary D-8 Council of Ministers Meeting’ held at the Dolmabahçe Presidential Office. Minister Fidan stated, ‘There is no doubt that those who carried out this massacre in Gaza will be held accountable one day. Those who stand by the peaceful future of Palestine will prevail.’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan spoke at the opening of the ‘Extraordinary D-8 Council of Ministers Meeting’ held at the Dolmabahçe Presidential Office. Speaking at the opening of the meeting held in Istanbul with the agenda of Gaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan said, ‘Our brothers in the region continue to live under threat in the face of Israel’s escalating war efforts. The events on the Egypt border, targeting Lebanon, and the attacks on the Iranian consulate in Syria are all consequences of this regional spillover effect. D-8 is another platform for our solidarity against the Israeli attack. This also shows that we stand by our brothers in the region. We also congratulate and appreciate Egypt for its incredible role in the humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel is committing crimes one after another within the framework of international law. The situation in Gaza is a disgrace for humanity. Standing by Gaza and resisting oppression and pressure is our duty and a period for humanity. We must stand against occupation, annexation, and illegal settlements and uphold human dignity. As D-8 countries, we stand by and support Palestine. Our meeting today is an opportunity for the repetition of these dates. We work to secure the rights of the Palestinian people with the declaration of our cooperation in every aspect.’
Those who carried out the massacre will be held accountable one day. Minister Fidan, who stated that those who carried out the massacre in Gaza will be held accountable one day, said, ‘We have no doubt that those who carried out this massacre in Gaza will be held accountable one day. Those who stand by the peaceful future of Palestine will prevail. We are working very hard to achieve this. From the beginning, we have continued to support a Palestinian state with independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. So far, 148 countries have recognized the state of Palestine. Hundreds of countries have stood against this historic injustice and set conditions for opposition, including Spain, Norway, Ireland, and most recently Slovenia. The remaining countries will surely follow suit. At some point, Palestine will become a full member of the United Nations. We call on other countries to recognize the State of Palestine at this point. The United Nations Council should actually listen to this call and stop being a hostage to a country. Palestine rightfully deserves all kinds of political, economic, and legal support as a full-fledged state. Our efforts will be for the uninterrupted provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, for an urgent and lasting ceasefire. Israel has always manipulated and rejected these ceasefire efforts. Hamas particularly supports a lasting peace constructively in this regard. This is not a call for war or peace. An urgent and lasting solution will only come with a permanent ceasefire. This can only be achieved through diplomacy and consensus. In this context, there is no option other than the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.’
‘We will support the unity of Palestine.’ Minister Fidan, who stated that we should actually go beyond the tried methods and support different approaches, said, ‘As Turkey, we will always be by the side of these efforts. We will evaluate valid and implementable options. We will always stand by our Palestinian brothers. We will also be by their side in the reconstruction process. We will support the unity of Palestine.’
