President of the Yalova Balkan Immigrants Association (BAL-GÖÇ), Lütfi Özgür, called on dual citizens to vote ahead of the Bulgarian elections scheduled for June 9, 2024. Bulgaria is heading to early elections for the sixth time in 3 years due to the collapse of the center-right GERB and the Change Continues Party coalition in March. Turkish-origin Bulgarian citizens in Turkey will also vote on Sunday, June 9, 2024. In this context, President of the Yalova Balkan Immigrants Association (BALGÖÇ), Lütfi Özgür, urged dual citizens to go to the polls. Speaking at a press conference at the Yalova Balkan House, Özgür said that the HÖH, which represents Turks in Bulgaria, had the chance to become the 2nd party in its history. Emphasizing that if HÖH becomes the 2nd party, it will be the party to form the coalition, Özgür stated: ‘On Sunday, early general elections and European Parliament elections will be held in Bulgaria. As the Yalova Balkan Immigrants Association, we have completed all our preparations. A total of 4 ballot boxes will be set up in Yalova. 2 of the ballot boxes will be in the Gaziosmanpaşa neighborhood, one ballot box in the 500 Evler neighborhood of Çiftlikköy district, and 1 ballot box in the Subaşı town of Altınova. This election is extremely important. Therefore, I call on all our compatriots residing in Yalova to go to the polls. As it is known, there is a serious political instability in Bulgaria. A healthy government has not been formed in the last 5 elections. That’s why the 6th election will be held. Of course, these have very negative implications for the Bulgarian economy and social life. In order to prevent this from happening again, it is necessary to go to the polls. On the other hand, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH), which represents Turks in Bulgaria, is very close to becoming the 2nd party in Bulgaria for the first time in its history. If we become the 2nd party, our chance of being a coalition partner is very high. In the first elections, we were an unpopular party in Bulgaria, but it is now seen that a government cannot be formed without HÖH. I believe that we will emerge from this election as a government partner. We must vote to eliminate political instability, protect our citizens, ensure equal citizenship in Europe, protect our social rights in Bulgaria, and support our brothers in Bulgaria. For these reasons, we attach great importance to this election. There are 2,300 voters in Yalova. Some of them went to Bulgaria for the Eid al-Adha and will vote there, the rest of our citizens must go to the polls here.’
