The ‘Children Growing Up with Zero Waste’ project was launched by Basaksehir Municipality. In the project, which 35 thousand children participated, 13,350 works were produced, and 216 thousand trees were saved from being cut down.Basaksehir Municipality organized the ‘Children Growing Up with Zero Waste’ project in 25 schools in the district during the 2023-2024 academic year. 35 thousand children participated in the project. Within the scope of the project, children’s awareness of nature and the environment is strengthened, while the amount of green areas is also increased. The municipality became the first district municipality in Istanbul to receive the ‘Zero Waste Certificate’ for meeting all the criteria in the zero waste field set by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.Produced 13,350 works from recyclingIn collaboration with Basaksehir District Directorate of National Education, 35 thousand children participated in the project organized in 25 primary schools during the 2023-2024 academic year. Within the project, 13,350 works were produced from recycling. In addition, 1,250 clothes were made and exhibited from waste.Green areas of hundreds of thousands of square meters were opened to serviceIn 2024, municipal teams provided zero waste information to a total of 60,325 houses, 50 thousand students, and 400 businesses. In order to strengthen environmental awareness and increase the love for green areas, green areas of hundreds of thousands of square meters including Basaksehir People’s Garden, Hoshdere People’s Garden, Kayasehir People’s Garden, Ayazma People’s Garden, Altinsehir People’s Garden, Pine and Sakura People’s Garden, Sular Vadisi, and Bahcesehir Pond were opened to the service of Basaksehir residents. The construction of Guvercintepe People’s Garden, which is still ongoing, is approaching completion.216 thousand trees were saved from being cut downWithin the scope of the conducted works, 12,756 tons of paper waste were collected, preventing the cutting of 216,859 trees. 100 tons of recyclable waste material is now being collected daily. 52 tons of waste tires were also recycled.
