Izmir Metropolitan Municipality signed an important collaboration with the Robot Hand Association to meet the growing need for robot hands, especially after the earthquakes on February 6. Mechanical hands will be produced with 3D printers for children over 5 years old with finger and hand deformities.
Within the scope of the collaboration between Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Robot Hand Association, mechanical hands will be produced for children with finger and hand deformities. Under the protocol signed by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Zeki Yıldırım and Robot Hand Association President Serdar Okumuş, personalized mechanical hands will be developed with 3D printers for children over 5 years old and delivered free of charge to those in need.
Touching collaboration
Zeki Yıldırım, Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the work to be carried out at FabrikaLab under the Strategy Development Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is very meaningful. Yıldırım said, “When we look at the ultimate goal of this collaboration, there is a deeply touching and emotionally affecting process. It is a very valuable work. It is gratifying to reach this stage. I thank you for your contributions and efforts. We would like to develop such collaborations. Our Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay attaches great importance to both public and community health issues.”
First protocol signed with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality
Serdar Okumuş, President of the Robot Hand Association, thanked for the support, stating that this work will give hope to many people. Okumuş said, “This work will be a source of hope for many. Especially after the earthquake on February 6, this problem has grown even more. We should all work together to find a solution to this problem.”
Facilitating children’s lives
Within the protocol, personalized mechanical hands will be produced with 3D printers for children over 5 years old in need of hand and finger support. These mechanical hands, which do not serve as medical devices or prostheses, will facilitate the lives of children. Designed to perform basic gripping movements, the mechanical hands aim to support children’s self-sufficiency and ability to move independently in daily life. These mechanical devices have been developed for children to use in interactive and play activities, enriching their social and emotional experiences. Even the simple gripping movement will make a difference in the lives of children who ride bicycles and play with balls.
