Zeki Cüce, the President of the Mut Wholesale Market Vegetable Fruit Commission Merchants Association of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the Mut Vegetable and Wholesale Market is no longer sufficient for the district and requested support from Mersin Metropolitan Municipality for the construction of a new market. Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer said, ‘We have made our application and have been waiting for 2 years.’ Zeki Cüce emphasized in his statement that one of the reasons farmers do not prefer to come to the market is the inadequacy of the public complex. He mentioned the need for the market to expand to allow outside vendors to enter, ensuring a more efficient trade. Cüce pointed out that there is an annual loss of 20 thousand crates of apricots for the commission merchants at the market and highlighted the lack of storage area for crates. He emphasized the necessity for the government and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality to intervene for the expansion of the market. Mayor Seçer expressed that they have applied for the necessary procedures and have been waiting for 2 years for the organization of the market, which is one of the fundamental expectations of Mut. He called for collective effort to resolve pending issues and emphasized the importance of unity for the benefit of Mersin, transcending political differences.
