He mentioned that he held a series of meetings in Ankara to discuss the restoration works at the Yeni Mosque, which is of great cultural and historical significance.

AK Party Malatya Deputy İnanç Siraç Kara Ölmeztoprak stated that the restoration works at the historical Yeni Mosque, one of the symbolic structures of the city completely destroyed in the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, have been accelerated.

During a series of visits in Ankara, AK Party Malatya Deputy Inanç Siraç Kara Ölmeztoprak, met with the Deputy Ministers of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu, Justice Hurşit Yıldırım, and Labor and Social Security Lütfihak Alpkan, discussing the ongoing works and projects in the city.

Deputy Ölmeztoprak noted that in Malatya, where the earthquakes revealed a great devastation, all state resources are being mobilized for the reconstruction and revitalization of the city. He also mentioned that the restoration works at the historical Yeni Mosque, one of the symbolic structures of the city completely destroyed in the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, have been accelerated.

“A vigorous effort is underway”

Deputy Ölmeztoprak mentioned that the dismantling process at the historical mosque began on February 27, 2024, as part of the restoration works. He stated, “The restoration works at our city’s most important structure, the historical Yeni Mosque, are progressing rapidly. The remaining parts of the minarets, as well as the southern, eastern, and western walls, have been dismantled. The dismantling process is ongoing for the northern wall and the last congregation section. It is planned to complete the dismantling process after the Eid al-Adha holiday and start the ground reinforcement works in July. There is a vigorous effort in place at the structure, and hopefully, our mosque will be open for worship in the shortest time possible.”

Ölmeztoprak also mentioned that they closely follow the projects to transfer Sabancı Culture Site, the New Courthouse Building, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to be converted into a children’s library, as well as the Gazi Primary School and Akçadağ Central Market projects. He expressed their determination to erase the traces of the earthquake.
