Simav Gölcük Plateau Yoruks Association, who aims to pass on the cultural richness of Anatolia to future generations, celebrated their first anniversary with the ‘Yoruk Festival’ they organized. Turkish Folk Music Artist Mehmet Yiğit performed at the festival where folk songs specific to the Simav region, traditional games that keep the Yoruk culture alive, and local delicacies were featured, providing an unforgettable day for the people of Simav at the 1,450-meter-high Gölcük Plateau.
Striving to keep the Yoruk culture alive by traveling from village to village, Simav artist Mehmet Yiğit stated, ‘We had an unforgettable day with our fellow Simav residents at the Yoruk Festival we organized at the 1,450-meter-high Gölcük Plateau. I have tried to explain the value that should be given to the Yoruk culture at every wedding where I performed, including many media channels. The Yoruk culture, which has been traveling through the heart of Anatolia for centuries, is a part of a culture entrusted to us wherever the tents are set up, and passing these on to future generations becomes even more important, especially in these times. I thank our association president Ahmet Baştimur, who brought all Simav residents together under one roof in such a beautiful event, and everyone who contributed.’
The 1st Gölcük Plateau Yoruk Festivals, where the traditional values of Yoruk culture and Yoruk tribe come together in a great unity, ended with keşkek cooked in cauldrons, roasted helvas, Yoruk gentlemen performing the Islamoglu zeybek dance, and Yoruk women playing spoon games.
