Kibar Yazıcı, the only classic car mechanic in the Tirebolu district of Giresun, continues to breathe new life into classic cars that gain value as they age. Expressing that classic car enthusiasts add value to their cars by restoring scrapped cars to their original state, Kibar Yazıcı is among the few classic car mechanics in Turkey. Describing that he has been working as a bodywork mechanic in the district for about 50 years, Kibar Yazıcı stated that they focus entirely on classic car restoration. He mentioned that they disassemble and rebuild these cars, perform bodywork and paint jobs, while the upholstery work is done in Kayseri. He emphasized that classic cars are a craft and they receive classic car restoration requests from all around Turkey.
Yazıcı also noted that the classic cars they repair are more expensive than ordinary brand-new cars. He mentioned that the most original classic car they repaired so far was a 1955 Chevrolet, highlighting that the value of these cars increases over time. He explained that some of the cars they work on will be worth around 1.5 million Turkish Liras when completed, surpassing the value of ordinary new cars. Yazıcı advised potential classic car buyers to pay attention to the originality of the cars, as even a single changed screw can diminish their appeal.
Yazıcı further argued that classic cars are safer both in terms of repairs and durability compared to modern cars. He stated that classic cars have stronger frames, leading to lower fatality rates in accidents. He highlighted that classic cars have longer lifespans, are more durable, and easier to repair mechanically compared to modern cars which are more electronic-based and expensive to fix. Yazıcı pointed out that in modern cars, if there is a breakdown on the road, it might require leaving the vehicle there, as opposed to classic cars where repairs can be done on the spot.
