The exhibition titled ‘A Free Day in Bursa’ prepared within the scope of the ‘2024 Bursa Nazım Hikmet Year’ events by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality was opened to visitors, while the concert ‘We are grateful, we live – With Songs and Poems of Nazım Hikmet’ also offered the people of Bursa a night filled with poetry and songs. Poet and writer Nazım Hikmet Ran, who has contributed numerous works to world and Turkish literature, is being commemorated with various events prepared by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. The Metropolitan Municipality, dedicating the year 2024 to Nazım Hikmet, aims for the poet’s universal voice, revolutionary spirit, and life philosophy that places human dignity above all else to enlighten the city’s cultural path throughout the year. The exhibition titled ‘A Free Day in Bursa,’ prepared within the framework of these events, was opened for visit at Tayyare Cultural Center. The exhibition, where visitors have the opportunity to see the only free photograph of Nazım Hikmet in Bursa, can be visited between June 3-9. In the work titled ‘Nazım’s Years in Bursa’ by the author and also the Head of Press, Publications, and Public Relations Department, Güney Özkılınç, it is mentioned that Nazım Hikmet came as a journalist without handcuffs for the first time on May 24, 1936 to cover the exhibition opened by his friend, the Bursa caricaturist Cemal Nadir, at Tayyare Cultural Center. The opening of the exhibition prepared in memory of that day was attended by the Head of Department of Culture and Social Affairs Şafak Baba Pala, the Head of Press, Publications, and Public Relations Department Güney Özkılınç, Project and Research Responsible Deniz Dalkılınç, Curator Tuba Okat Koçak, and art enthusiasts. During the opening of the exhibition, Şafak Baba Pala stated that they would commemorate Nazım Hikmet, who wrote many of his poems and letters in Bursa, throughout the year with various programs. Mentioning that the story of a photograph is being told, Pala thanked those who contributed to the preparation of the exhibition and invited all residents of Bursa to visit. Following the opening of the exhibition, art enthusiasts showed great interest in the concert ‘We are grateful, we live – With Songs and Poems of Nazım Hikmet’ held at Tayyare Cultural Center. While the poems of Nazım Hikmet were recited by Hakan Pişkin and Yeşim Koçak, the works of the master poet were performed by soloists Vedat Sakman, Gülcan Altan, and Jehan Barbur. The artists who recited important lines by Nazım Hikmet for the people of Bursa received great applause from the audience at the end of the night. Following the program, the Head of Department of Culture and Social Affairs, Şafak Baba Pala, presented flowers to the artists and those who contributed to the event.
