The delegation members consisting of the President of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador of Germany Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, along with 15 ambassadors, visited the Mayor of Isparta, Şükrü Başdeğirmen. Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen stated, ‘Isparta is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in our country.’ The President of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador of Germany Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, along with 15 ambassadors from various countries, visited Isparta for a series of meetings and visits. After meeting with the Governor of Isparta, Aydın Baruş, the members visited the Mayor of Isparta, Şükrü Başdeğirmen. Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen welcomed the President of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador of Germany Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut and the delegation members at the municipality entrance. The delegation included the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Jurgis Vilcinskas, Ambassadors of Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, and Spain. Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen expressed his pleasure in hosting the President of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador of Germany Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut and the delegation members in Isparta, stating, ‘Isparta is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in our country.’ Providing information about the history, nature, tourism, and agriculture of Isparta, Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen discussed potential mutual cooperation in economic terms and answered the ambassadors’ questions about the city. Mayor Başdeğirmen mentioned, ‘One of our most valuable products is our rose, which cannot be produced outside Isparta. Our rose is our brand, and we feel very lucky in this regard. Being located at the crossroads of our country is a significant advantage for us. Our city has a deep-rooted history.’ He also talked about areas such as the Yalvaç Psidia Antiocheia ancient city, Lake Eğirdir, Davraz Ski Center, Zindan Cave, and Yazılı Canyon. Providing information about the rose, lavender, and endemic plants of the city, Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen stated, ‘While touring Isparta, you will see the beauties of our city. Tomorrow, we will all pick roses together in the rose gardens,’ and made evaluations about products derived from roses. ‘We are happy to see you here. I hope you will have a wonderful time. As a Turkish citizen, I would like to express my gratitude for bringing important values as a bridge between your countries and our country. Thank you for taking the time to visit Isparta Municipality,’ he added. The President of the European Union Delegation and Ambassador of Germany Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut said, ‘I am delighted to be in Isparta with my colleagues from the European Union. We are at the beginning of discovering the beauties and richness of this city. From this morning, I have discovered that you can do much more with roses than I could imagine.’ He also mentioned that he saw roses being used in many areas from cosmetics to decoration and expressed his eagerness to learn more about the city. Following the speeches, Mayor Şükrü Başdeğirmen and the EU delegation members exchanged views on potential economic collaborations in various fields.
