Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel stated, ‘I will repeat what I did on the evening of March 31. They say 2028, I will not rush to the ballot box by using March 31 as an excuse. Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Ozgur Ozel said, “I will repeat what I did on the evening of March 31. They say 2028, using March 31 as an excuse, I won’t immediately call for elections. But if things continue like this, the people will demand early elections, and no one will stand in their way. It’s that clear. The people will make their voice heard to those who don’t listen, and show themselves to those who don’t see.” Ozgur Ozel, the Chairman of CHP, attended the party’s group meeting at the Turkish Parliament. Speaking there, Ozel responded to criticisms of those who switched from the Good Party to CHP by saying he will not fight with them. Speaking about early elections, Ozel said, “I will repeat what I did on the evening of March 31. They say 2028, using March 31 as an excuse, I won’t immediately call for elections. But if things continue like this, the people will demand early elections, and no one will stand in their way.”
“I don’t oppose anyone except those who bear the responsibility of the government” Ozgur Ozel, responding to criticisms from the Good Party regarding the decision of Aykut Kaya and Murat Karaman to join CHP, said, “Those who try to pick a fight with CHP by saying weird things mentioning our name when a person embracing the principles of Ataturk and the Republic, who has met with our friends upon the call of our party and having a last tea with me, joins our party or returns to his roots, I don’t oppose anyone except those who bear the responsibility of the government. I won’t fight with you just because you want me to. Know this.”
“Appointing a trustee is disrespecting the will of the people of Hakkari” Speaking about the trustee appointed to Hakkari Municipality, Ozel said, “Hakkari made its decision. Mehmet Siddik Akis was elected as the mayor by receiving 49% of the votes, meaning he received the vote of one in every two people in Hakkari. Yesterday morning, we learned that he was taken into custody in an operation, and the governor of Hakkari was appointed as the trustee. Moreover, the relevant indictment belongs to an investigation that started in 2010. The acceptance date is 2014. A case that has been going on for 10 years, a 14-year-old issue, and the prosecutor who prepared the indictment is currently on the run for FETO. There is no way to prove the allegations in the indictment, the case has been postponed several times, but yesterday, a new investigation was initiated, the mayor was taken into custody based on a new investigation, we don’t know what the crime is, but they say there is a confidentiality order. If there is a crime, if there is a record, if there is new evidence, of course, he can be punished, but there is a proper procedure. After 14 years of trial, when he is tried and if he is arrested, a deputy will be elected from the municipal council. If he is sentenced, it will be dropped when it is finalized, and a mayor will be elected from the municipal council.”
“If things continue like this, the people will demand early elections” Ozel, stating that many segments in Turkey are unhappy, said, “Our path is one of self-confidence, courage, democratic goals, knowing where we are heading. We draw our strength from the Turkey Alliance that supported us on March 31 and our founder who said ‘If one of my two great works is the Republic, the other one is the Republican People’s Party.’ We will continue this path with hope, determination, and courage together with the MPs, party council members, provincial and district chairmen of the party, women, and young people whose numbers increase by 8-10 thousand every week. I have only one goal; I will repeat what I did on the evening of March 31. They say 2028, using March 31 as an excuse, I won’t immediately call for elections. But if things continue like this, the people will demand early elections, and no one will stand in their way. It’s that clear. The people will make their voice heard to those who don’t listen, and show themselves to those who don’t see. Those who read about the upcoming period of democratization, normalization, standing by the oppressed, making the elderly smile, and supporting the minimum wage, will read in the general elections, even if those who don’t read will make this nation read.”
