Children from Esenyurt turned their pedals for both health and sports on World Bicycle Day on June 3rd. Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, who participated in the event, announced that they will increase the bicycle and walking paths in the district.

During the event organized by Esenyurt Municipality on the occasion of World Bicycle Day on June 3rd, awareness was raised about the importance of bicycle usage. Children at the event, initiated by Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, experienced a ride from the Skate Park to Vadi Esenyurt Park. At the end of the event, the trainees who received bicycle training throughout the year received their medals and certificates from Mayor Özer. Speaking at the program, Mayor Özer emphasized the importance of cycling for both health and sports in order to instill a cycling culture in the city. Özer also announced that they will increase the bicycle and walking paths in Esenyurt.

“We will build bicycle and walking paths”
Mayor Özer, stating that bicycles both protect nature and make people healthy, said, “Vehicles comfortably take us from one place to another but harm nature. If this continues, the world will become uninhabitable after a while. One of the ways to protect this is the event we held today. Cycling makes people healthy and does not harm nature. However, there are no bicycle paths in Esenyurt. Imagine a city with a population of 1 million but insufficient walking and bicycle paths. We urgently need to work on this. Everything is for a healthy society. The foundation of a healthy society is healthy children and youth. One of the ways to achieve this is to engage in sports. As a municipality, we should first create areas for the public to engage in sports. Then we should lead amateur sports. And if there are professionals, we should also support them.”

“We will turn Esenyurt into a sports city”
Mayor Özer expressed that they provide sports services to 35,500 people in 29 different branches at municipal facilities for a healthy society and added, “We will increase this. Everyone should encourage those around them to walk, exercise, and ride bicycles. Let’s make cycling a part of our lives. We need to be an environmentally friendly society. The architect of this society is our women. With their leadership, we will turn Esenyurt into the capital of sports, art, and culture. This is one of my greatest ideals. From now on, we will increase such events even more. By increasing the walking and bicycle paths in our district, we will encourage our children to engage in these activities. With your help, we will turn Esenyurt into a sports city.”

“Thank you to our Mayor”
Emine Sena Gündüz, who said she had a lot of fun at the event, stated, “Today, we gathered here. After our Mayor made a nice speech, we rode our bicycles. We had a lot of fun here. After the bicycle event, they distributed medals to us. I thank our Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer for organizing this event. Hopefully, such events will continue all the time.”

“Our children had a lot of fun”
Zehra Batı, who brought her child to the bicycle day event, said, “I congratulate everyone on World Bicycle Day. I thank our Municipality very much for organizing such an event. Our children had a lot of fun. It was also a great activity for us adults.”
