A massive parking lot initiative in İnegöl

Mayor Alper Taban of İnegöl Municipality made a statement regarding the parking lots that the municipality has recently established in central locations and throughout the city, urging the citizens to use the ‘Free Parking Lots.’ İnegöl Municipality has created a significant number of free parking areas in the city center and neighborhoods, especially with the parking lots implemented in the recent period. During Mayor Alper Taban’s term, İnegöl Municipality has produced 6,000 parking spaces at 143 different locations, easing the urban traffic. The steps taken in this area, including the parking lots like Merkez Park, Kent Meydanı, Yeni Yaşam Alanı in the city center, Bankalar Caddesi, Letafet Sokak known as the entrance to the bazaar, and the 250-car parking lots in Yenice Mahallesi along with neighborhood parking lots in the side streets, have directly impacted the city’s traffic flow.
Mayor Alper Taban, who evaluated the parking lot constructions, stated, ‘Since the first day we took office, we prioritized the parking issue. Taking into account the rapidly increasing population and number of vehicles, we carried out works in this area. Our teams evaluated suitable areas for parking while producing parking spaces through expropriations in locations where there was a need but no empty space. As a result, during our term, we have created new parking lots in 143 different locations, offering a total of 6,000 parking spaces for public use. Some of these parking lots are neighborhood parking lots in alleyways, while others are large free parking areas with capacities of 100-150-250 vehicles located close to the city center. In other words, we have parking lots for 10 vehicles as well as ones for 250 vehicles, all of which are provided free of charge. Especially near the bazaar area, we opened such large parking areas near the center and entrance of the bazaar to ease the congestion. By showing our citizens places to park outside the bazaar, we also encouraged pedestrianization in crowded areas. People entered the bazaar on foot by leaving their vehicles, thus reducing the number of vehicles in central locations’.
Mayor Taban also pointed out the significant parking initiatives that came to life in the city center, stating, ‘Our Kent Meydanı and Yeni Yaşam Alanı projects, along with our Merkez Park projects located just across the street, have greatly contributed to the parking issue. In total, we obtained 390 parking spaces in the city center from both of our projects. Additionally, we have made Merpa Pazar Yeri multi-storey parking lot available for public use’.
Emphasizing the importance of not only creating but also utilizing the parking lots effectively, Mayor Taban highlighted, ‘While our open parking lots are being used, there are shortcomings in the utilization of enclosed parking lots. Our citizens do not utilize these areas to full capacity. It is necessary for us to adopt this habit. I would like to make a call once again to use all our open and enclosed parking lots. We must acquire this habit for the security of our vehicles and to prevent negative impacts on traffic’.
