The 104th anniversary celebrations of the liberation of Kozan district in Adana from enemy occupation were postponed to the evening due to the High School Transition System (LGS) exam taking place in the morning. On June 2nd, the ceremonies held every year in Kozan to commemorate the liberation from the French occupation coincided with the LGS exam this year. In order to prevent students from being affected by the celebration noises during the exam, the ceremony was rescheduled to the evening by the Kuva-i Milliye mujahideen and the district protocol. The ceremony started with cannon fire at Kozan Castle and the rescue of the liberty girl from the historic Hoş Kadem Mosque. The French occupation flag was lowered in the mosque, and together with the members of the Kuva-i Milliye Mujahideen Association, who are the grandchildren of the heroic martyrs involved in the liberation of Kozan, the liberty girl was taken out of the mosque with the Turkish flag. Then, a liberation march took place on Saimbeyli Avenue. The Turkish flag taken from the grave of the martyr Kaymakam Saim Bey, one of the liberation struggle martyrs, was handed over to Kozan Mayor Mustafa Atlı by the youth in the Turkish Greats Square. ‘We sacrificed as the people of Kozan’ said Mutlu Dağlı, the President of the Kuva-i Milliye Mujahideen Association Kozan Branch, ‘We used to start every liberation celebration in the morning. We made such a sacrifice for the future of our students and moved the celebrations to the evening. Happy anniversary of our liberation.’ Mustafa Zeki Apaydın from the Adana Kuva-i Milli Association expressed that they made sacrifices for the students and participated in the events from Adana to convey the national struggle. Mayor Mustafa Atlı of Kozan expressed that the historical truths of Turks being burned alive in the ovens during the national struggle period in Kozan against the Armenians’ genocide lies still stand vividly in the region.
