Six short films prepared by students studying at Sultangazi Cinema Academy were presented to the audience at the gala night held. Sultangazi Municipality organized a gala night for the screening of short films prepared by students of Sultangazi Cinema Academy. In the program held at Sultangazi Event Hall, 6 short films prepared by 80 students who received education at the academy in the fields of scriptwriting, acting, and directing for about 8 months were presented to the audience. The films titled 360 Degrees, Justice, Screen, Hunger, Stories from the Coffin, and Buried in the Chest, which were prepared by the students, were screened. The program was attended by Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun, students studying at the academy, trainers, and other invitees. Plaques were presented to the academy trainers, and participation certificates were given to the students. The academy students also gave a plaque as a gift to Mayor Dursun.
“We have turned a dream into reality in Sultangazi” At the end of the program, Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun said, “Today, we have turned a dream into reality in Sultangazi. We have accomplished a great work with our Cinema Academy. Our Cinema Academy started about 8 months ago. In this process that started with 400 applications, 80 of our students went through the process and became eligible to receive education at the academy. For about 8 months, our education has been ongoing. In these trainings, competent names in the field provided training in 3 stages. They received very special lessons first in drama and performance. Then they took lessons in scriptwriting, which are the most important stages of cinema. Of course, there was also behind the scenes. An approximately 80-person team gathered here today at a gala and created 6 scenarios. Today, the people of Sultangazi watched the filmed versions of these scenarios together. It was very important for us. For them, it was the moments when dreams turned into reality. We believe that we provide a service that believes cities will be much stronger with cultural activities, and activities in social and educational areas. Within this framework, our cultural activities are very intense. We are doing very special things in social areas. Just like in our Cinema Academy, we provide strong services in our Writing Academy, Music Academy, and Sports Academy. We are striving to make Sultangazi a Sultan City. We believe that cities need to be built and revitalized, but most importantly, hearts need to be revitalized.”
“We will watch the first fruits of the directing class’s first short film tonight” Director Ali Ilhan, who teaches at the academy, said, “Tonight we will watch the first fruits of the first short film of the directing class that we held this year. I am excited, but probably the students who will watch their first short films are more excited than me. I will also share their excitement. I think short film is very important because I started in this industry in 2003 by shooting short films, and I believe that shooting something is like looking in the mirror.”
“We had a lot of fun while shooting the films” Speaking at the gala night, Zeliha Burak, a student at Sultangazi Cinema Academy, said, “I am a student in the directing class at Sultangazi Cinema Academy. Today we have our gala and we will show our films. We had a lot of fun while shooting the films. We were always on set, helping in every way, whether in the background or foreground. I am very excited right now. I directed a film for the first time. I am looking forward to seeing it. I thank our municipality for giving us this opportunity.”
