The neighborhood in Gümüşhane cannot seem to get rid of its problem with garbage

The village of Köprübaşı in the Torul district of Gümüşhane has been suffering for years due to the garbage accumulated in the dam lake. While a solution to the problem has not been found for years, the local people expressed their complaints. The Köprübaşı Village, located on the shore of the Torul Dam Lake in the Torul district and established for the purpose of energy production, has turned into a landfill due to the waste thrown into the dam lake by unconscious individuals. Residents of the village, who expressed their discomfort due to the garbage floating on the surface when the water level of the dam lake rises and washing ashore when the water level decreases for many years, stated that their problem has not been solved and voiced their complaints. The headman of Köprübaşı Village, Serkan Atasu, stated that since the first day the dam lake started to retain water, their neighborhood turned into a landfill due to the garbage thrown by unconscious citizens, and no steps have been taken to solve the problem they have been looking for a solution for many years. During periods when the water level rises even more, garbage islands can be seen floating on the lake, and the waste threatens the health of animals, plants, and humans in the region. ‘We are tired of seeing this filth, we don’t want to see it anymore,’ said Serkan Atasu, the headman of Köprübaşı Village, stating that all their applications for cleaning their neighborhoods have been in vain. ‘We are fed up with dealing with this filth all year round. We want a solution to this mess as soon as possible. No solution has been produced so far, we are in a very difficult situation. Landowners are also complaining, we are all complaining. We tell people not to throw their garbage into the stream, but still there is no solution. We are tired of saying this. This filth is harmful not only to animals but also to humans, and we don’t want to see it anymore,’ he said. Local resident Ahmet Aksoy said, ‘I came here with my headman and saw the view, the scenery here is not good at all. There is no such thing as cleanliness, it’s all garbage. Disgusting. This is harmful to the health of animals, humans, and plants. Everything is here, plastics, garbage,’ he said.
