Rector of Sirnak University (SU) Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış announced the opening of nursing, business administration, and tourism management departments, and stated that they will be accepting students this year. Expressing that the first students of the department will start their classes in the upcoming academic year, Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış mentioned that due to it being the first year, 40 students can choose this department. Alkış emphasized that the nursing department will be an important gain for Sirnak. Alkış stated to journalists that they are doing their best to turn Sirnak into a city known for students and health. Alkış pointed out that in the new academic year, the university will be admitting students to 3 departments for the first time. Alkış said, ‘As Sirnak University, we are a new generation university. We have around 6,500 students, 6 faculties, and 7 vocational schools. Our students continue their educational activities in a very beautiful campus with very good social facilities. We have decided to add new departments to the existing ones in the upcoming academic year. We have opened the nursing program affiliated with our health sciences faculty. Every investment made in the health sector will be of great value for our country. We clearly saw this during the pandemic. Health personnel may always be needed. We deemed it appropriate to open such a program as an investment in the future.’ Expressing his gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for his significant contributions to the opening of this program, Rector Alkış added, ‘In addition, we have opened the business administration department affiliated with the faculty of economics and administrative sciences. We will also admit students to this department in the upcoming period. Another department is the tourism management program affiliated with the tourism college. We will start educational activities by admitting 30 students to this program. Sirnak needs such programs. In the future, we plan to open programs such as Petroleum Engineering, drilling technologies, etc. Our city has now become a petroleum city. We believe that these new departments to be opened will make great contributions to our university. We will admit 40 students for Nursing, 20 for Business Administration, and 30 for Tourism Management. I recommend students taking the university entrance exam to choose these 3 departments, especially Nursing. We have one of the most comprehensive laboratories in Turkey.’
