With the warming of the weather, the tourism season has opened at Mount Nemrut and Nemrut Crater Lake, which has the distinction of being the world’s second largest crater lake. Mount Nemrut and Nemrut Crater Lake, which are a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists with their natural beauty, welcome their guests with different beauties they adorn in every season. Nemrut Crater Lake, which received the ‘Excellence Award’ within the scope of the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) project, offers visitors different beauties in each season with its steam vents, small and large lakes. Located 20 kilometers away from Tatvan district, Nemrut Crater Lake at an altitude of 1,250 meters has also come to the agenda in recent years with the bears living in the region.
Ahmet Karaaslan, who came to Bitlis and Nemrut Crater Lake upon the recommendation of his friends from Silvan district of Diyarbakır, expressed his admiration for the history and nature of the region, stating, ‘I came here because I was curious about Bitlis. When I first came, I visited the historical sites. Later, I became curious about Nemrut Crater Mountain. My friends recommended it to me. They wanted me to come and see. I came, I saw. Even though our people in Turkey do not know, people from Europe and Asia come to see and visit this place. Unfortunately, our people do not research, do not like to travel, and therefore do not know these places. I was very happy to see this view. I’m glad I came. I recommend it to everyone. I think everyone should visit and know the beautiful historical sites of our provinces in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia’.
Nimet Saçlı, who came from Alanya district of Antalya to visit the historical and natural sites in the region, stated that she came to the region for the first time, saying, ‘I live in Alanya. I am also in the tourism industry. I fell in love with its nature, greenery, lakes, and craters. Not coming here is a big loss. My friends should take a tour and come to this region as soon as possible’.
A citizen named Ergün Erdoğan also expressed, ‘Nemrut is a wonderful place more than I thought. It is very impressive that this crater lake spreads over such a wide area. It is like a plain here. The surroundings are very green and there is literally a forest. It has a fabulous color. Everything is very beautiful’.
