Turkcell CEO Dr. Ali Taha Koç attended the ‘Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence for Good 2024’ program organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva. Dr. Koç represented Turkey at the program, which included representatives from international regulatory organizations, private companies, and government officials, sharing the company’s artificial intelligence initiatives.
The ‘Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence for Good 2024’ organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the top organization in the world telecommunications sector operating under the United Nations (UN), concluded in Geneva, Switzerland. Speaking at the summit held in collaboration with 40 UN agencies, Turkcell CEO Dr. Ali Taha Koç emphasized the importance of ethical rules in the development of artificial intelligence technologies during the roundtable discussion titled ‘Harmonizing Global Collaborations in the AI Industry’.
The CEO of Turkcell highlighted the vital importance of ethical standardization in the telecommunications industry to promote an innovative environment and enhance interoperability. Dr. Koç stated, ‘We anticipate that the telecommunications industry will significantly benefit from the integration of artificial intelligence given its wide networks, large volumes of data, and critical role in connecting people and businesses globally’.
‘Artificial intelligence, a kind of era change’ Dr. Ali Taha Koç emphasized the societal benefits of artificial intelligence, stating, ‘I see artificial intelligence as a kind of era change. We are transitioning from connecting ‘everyone’ to connecting ‘everything’.’ He stressed that artificial intelligence establishes a new form of relationship and should be used in a way that increases societal benefit. Dr. Koç mentioned that the company strictly adheres to ethical rules in its artificial intelligence projects, stating, ‘In all projects implemented at Turkcell, we develop artificial intelligence within ethical standards. We develop our products and services with a focus on ‘technology for people’.
‘As Turkcell, we guide the development of standards in future technologies’ Dr. Ali Taha Koç mentioned that the company actively participates in various international initiatives, stating that they are an active member of the GSMA artificial intelligence working group. He expressed that their efforts in this field not only shape the telecommunications environment but also guide the development of standards for future technologies. Dr. Koç said, ‘We are part of many working groups and initiatives with reputable organizations like ITU and 3GPP. We focus on future networks, including IMT-2030 standardization, which is crucial for next-generation telecommunications infrastructure. We lead the artificial intelligence-based network communication group’.
