Selçuk Municipality Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel informed the people of Selçuk about the agenda topics and the municipality’s activities through a live broadcast on her social media accounts. With the new working period, Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel stated that they have adopted a new structuring approach, aiming for a stronger communication strategy with the public. She mentioned, ‘In addition to our current municipal deputy mayors, we have appointed a political deputy mayor who can communicate directly with the public. We plan to establish our Tradesmen Commission alongside our Tradesmen Desk, as well as to launch our communication center in addition to SELBİM. We have completed our structuring in this sense. Now, by making some spatial changes, we will start using both our tradesmen desk and communication center actively.’ Mayor Filiz expressed that with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the ongoing cleanliness works in Selçuk gained momentum. She thanked Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for their enhanced cleaning services and highlighted the intensive works carried out especially in the city center.
Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel expressed gratitude to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay for visiting Selçuk as the first of the 30 districts based on projects. She stated, ‘With the confidence of our Mayor Cemil Tugay moving forward with us, we identified which of our implementable projects we can start with. From Pamucak Beach to the Culture and Youth Center, from the new bus station to the old bus station, we walked step by step together, explaining our projects in detail. In this regard, we thank all the employees of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and our Mayor for the attention shown.’
Mayor Ceritoğlu Sengel mentioned the strengthening of the Emekli Efeslim Card, referring to the Grand Retiree Rally held in Ankara over the weekend. She stated, ‘Every sentence uttered by our Chairman Özgür Özel at the Grand Retiree Rally in Ankara last weekend was particularly valuable for Selçuk, where a significant portion of the population are retirees. The increasing economic difficulties are making life increasingly challenging for our retirees. In this regard, months ago, we took our first step with the Retiree Efeslim Card, by contributing a certain amount monthly to support our retirees’ external shopping. However, after the statements made by our Chairman at the Grand Retiree Rally, we decided to increase this support a bit more and make efforts to provide more assistance to more people.’
Informing the people of Selçuk about the discussions held with the Directorate General of National Parks and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Ankara regarding the Meryem Ana House parking lot, Mayor Filiz stated, ‘I expressed at the Directorate General of National Parks how crucial the Meryem Ana House parking lot is for Selçuk Municipality to sustain and expand our social aid services. The process regarding this issue is ongoing. We discussed directly with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism what we can do for the new period, how we will establish the additional parking lot we need at Efes Lower Gate in the upcoming period.’
Mayor Ceritoğlu Sengel highlighted that Selçuk’s projects are based on the outcomes of the Selçuk Resilient City Conference held last year. She continued, ‘Just before the elections, based on the outcomes of the Resilient City Conference, we opened a library for our children in Çamlık Park. Understanding the importance of daytime child care centers based on the principles of this conference, we initiated efforts to transform an area in 14 Mayıs Neighborhood. We started working on building a new guest house for our students in higher education. To make bread, a fundamental necessity of the people, more easily accessible, we will open a bakery in Belevi and strive to increase the number of public bread buffets by producing our own bread.’ Mayor Filiz stated that she will continue to inform the people of Selçuk about the ongoing projects through social media, adding, ‘With the experience of the past, we are proceeding according to all the principles stated to us by civil society organizations and stakeholders at the Resilient City Conference. We will continue to provide frequent updates. In addition, we will resume our neighborhood meetings that we started last term but unfortunately had to pause due to the earthquake.’
