The era of electric taxis has started in Izmir for the first time. President of Izmir Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Merchants, Celil Anık, stated: ‘2 electric vehicles have been put into service at the Evka-3 central taxi stand. Electric vehicles provide fuel savings. I believe they will be successful.’

The era of electric taxis has started in Izmir as of today. Initially, 2 electric vehicles have been put into service at the Evka-3 central taxi stand. Electric vehicles can travel approximately 450 kilometers on a single charge. Celil Anık, the President of Izmir Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Merchants, expressed that eyes are now turning towards electric vehicles both globally and in Turkey. He said, ‘Electric vehicles have been put into service for the first time in Izmir. Hopefully, this will continue. Currently, we can track 3,000 taxis in Izmir in real time. We can see the total daily distance they travel. Our colleagues in the profession have shown courage by embracing electric vehicles. I believe they will be successful.’

‘Electric taxis provide savings’
President Anık, who stated that electric taxis do not pollute the environment and provide fuel savings, noted that electric vehicles consume around 850 Turkish lira, while gasoline taxis consume around 1,000 Turkish lira.

‘If all taxis become electric, it will contribute to the environment’
Continuing his words, Anık conveyed the following statements: ‘We have a total of 3,960 taxis, including 2,860 in Izmir city center and 1,100 in our districts. If all these taxis become electric, it will make a significant contribution to the environment. But I think it will take some time.’

‘We wanted to take the lead’
Serdar Sarıduman, the owner of one of the electric taxis put into service, stated: ‘Our biggest duty is not to pollute the environment. Vehicles are being renewed technologically every day. We need to adapt to technology over time. Now, due to technology, we are moving towards electric vehicles. Their mileage consumption and maintenance costs are lower. We are currently in a trial phase. We wanted to take the lead. We believe that many of our colleagues will follow us. We believe that it will be very beneficial both financially and in terms of driving comfort.’
