It was stated that transportation to Cyprus will take 1.5 hours with the pier prepared and the ferry rented in Anamur district of Mersin. Mersin Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan said, ‘This is our closest point to Cyprus. A ferry with a capacity of 450 people has been rented. Flights will start within the month of June. Travel to the port of Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic (TRNC) can be made from here in 1.5 hours.’ The pier built in Anamur, the closest point to Cyprus, has been prepared for ferry services. A company will be established with the support of the district governorship, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and businessmen under the leadership of the Governor’s Office to organize the ferry services. A 450-passenger ferry was rented to provide transportation from the pier, along with the customs building, to the port of Kyrenia in TRNC within 1.5 hours. Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, who visited Anamur to inspect the pier, announced that the flights will start within the month of June. Governor Pehlivan stated, ‘This place was built as a ferry and seaplane pier in 2019. A building for units was also built in 2021. Since its construction, there was a need to assign a function here. We held meetings with our District Governor of Anamur, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and relevant friends to give a function in line with the purpose of construction. As the Mersin Governorship, we volunteered to take over the transfer of this place from the ministry. Last year, we took over the transfer with the approval of the ministry. Institutions and the business world in the district formed an entity, established a company. We had detailed negotiations. As the governorship, we gave the operating right to this company by leasing.’
Governor Pehlivan, stating that the customs gate at the pier is not functional, said, ‘A customs area is now being created here. We have a port authority, we are forming security units. Arrangements have been made, and are still being made, for passenger entries and exits. I want to give good news. Hopefully, ferry services to Cyprus will start from this pier in the month of June. This is our closest point to Cyprus. A ferry with a capacity of 450 people has been rented. Flights will start within the month of June. Travel to Kyrenia port of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus can be made from here in 1.5 hours.’ Pointing out that after the start of the flights, boats for tourism purposes will also come and go, Pehlivan said, ‘Anamur is also a district with tourism potential. We have given a timely function to this pier. Road works that will increase tourism activity, along with sea transportation here, will not only serve Anamur but also the surrounding districts, from Antalya to Karaman, from Konya to Adana and Niğde, up to other provinces of inner Anatolia. This is a beginning.’
