In Sinop, within the scope of the Traditional Children’s Games Festival Week, the ‘Face to Face with 100 Games, Children’s Games Festivals’ were held. Children exhibited traditional games at the events held at Uğur Mumcu Square. The program started with a minute of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. Then, the Provincial Director of National Education, Osman Cebeci, delivered a speech highlighting the significance of the day. In his speech, Cebeci stated, ‘Children learn about the world and themselves through play, and express themselves through play. Competencies such as self-confidence, which are needed for work life and social relationships, are acquired through playing games from an early age. On the other hand, the consequences of excessive and unconscious use of technology, which has many benefits today, are known to all of us. Within this framework, it is of great importance to highlight the traditional games that will improve our children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being, and social aspects by allowing them to play in harmony with their friends in the natural environment of school and spend their time more effectively.’ He emphasized the importance of passing down our values to future generations and keeping our culture alive through traditional games, which aim to enable individuals of all ages to learn and incorporate these games into their lives. Later, a folk dance show prepared by the students of Şehit Halil Özdoğru Middle School was performed. Following the folk dances, the young students displayed their skills in wrestling shows. Games such as tug of war, arm wrestling, sack race, musical chairs, burning ball, and arm wrestling were played at the festival. Additionally, Sinop Deputy Mayor Hikmet Karaduman, Provincial General Assembly President Ersin Yaman, YEDAŞ Provincial Director Koray Keseroğlu, NGO representatives, citizens, and many students also attended the events.
