Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has been signing projects that add value to the city in the transportation sector over the past 5 years, and in the upcoming 5 years, it will implement strategic new projects in transportation as well. During the 5-year service period, the Metropolitan Municipality opened 7 bridge intersections, 11 bridges, and 35 new boulevards and streets in the city. In addition, the teams of the Metropolitan Municipality constructed a total of 971 kilometers of new roads, and carried out the laying of 1 million 851 thousand 500 tons of hot asphalt, raising the standards of the roads. The Department of Civil Works of the Metropolitan Municipality plans to both regulate intersections and implement new alternative road routes, which are the most important element in the city’s transportation, in the next 5 years. Within the scope of the Metropolitan Municipality’s alternative road planning, the goal is to build 10 new roads with a total length of 25 kilometers. Furthermore, in line with Mayor Büyükkılıç’s instruction, there will be no new roads without bicycle lanes. Meanwhile, continuously following a comfort approach in transportation, the teams are implementing new projects without neglecting a human and environmentally focused approach. In this context, while constructing overpasses and bridges, pedestrian-focused approaches and new projects supporting bicycle usage will be implemented. In accordance with Mayor Büyükkılıç’s instruction to build bicycle lanes on all new roads, the teams are planning to introduce bicycle lanes that cover the Talas region, integrate Erciyes University and the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden into the city. Additionally, the Metropolitan Municipality will introduce 7 pedestrian overpasses at 7 points identified on the main arteries with heavy pedestrian traffic in the city, enhancing traffic safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
