The 5th Eskişehir Health and Information Symposium, organized in collaboration with Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) and the Turkey Informatics Association (TBD), was held at the ESOGÜ Congress and Culture Center with the main theme of ‘Digital Health Ecosystem’. The event was attended by ESOGÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Kamil Çolak, TBD Vice President Ali Yazıcı, and TBD Eskişehir Branch President Av. Dr. Barış Günaydın. TBD Vice President Ali Yazıcı, who delivered the opening speech of the symposium, emphasized that recent developments in technology, especially in artificial intelligence, deeply affect all sectors and discussed the reflections of these developments in the field of health. Ali Yazıcı stated that the primary goals of effective use of information technologies in the health sector are currently focused on efficient use of resources such as healthcare personnel, time, and energy, highlighting the prominence of telehealth service capabilities. ESOGÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Kamil Çolak, in his opening speech, mentioned ESOGÜ’s mission in the priority area of ‘Digital Technologies in Health’ granted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and projects carried out in this direction. Prof. Dr. Kamil Çolak expressed that the university emphasizes interdisciplinary studies of health sciences and engineering sciences in its R&D policy, mentioning that workshops are organized, working groups and project teams are formed to strengthen activities in this field. Prof. Dr. Kamil Çolak noted that they aim to develop technologies that will lead in the national and international arena with concrete projects to be implemented at ESOGÜ, providing universal benefits for humanity. Following the opening, sessions titled ‘Development of Digital Health Ecosystem’, ‘Telehealth Services’, ‘Innovative Digital Applications’, and ‘Health Informatics Solutions for Disadvantaged Groups’ were held. The symposium, which sheds light on the problems encountered in the fields of informatics and health in Turkey and brings the sector together, aims to contribute to efforts to use information technologies more effectively in the public and private sectors, and to achieve digital transformation in the health sector through information technologies.
