In Antakya district of Hatay, where the Meteorology issued an orange-coded warning, vehicles submerged in waterlogged streets due to a sudden downpour were rescued by the teams’ efforts. Following the warnings issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, rainy weather started to affect Hatay from Friday morning. The rain, which was effective in regions of the districts, made its presence felt in the evening in Antakya district. Drivers experienced difficult moments due to the heavy rain pouring down. In the area of the ring road turned into a lake, many vehicles were trapped in the water. Efforts were initiated to rescue the vehicles that seemed to disappear in the water. With the ongoing efforts, the vehicles were rescued from where they were trapped. While there was material damage to the vehicles, there were no casualties. Zafer Yılmaz, who was trapped in the water with his vehicle on the flooded road, described the moments he experienced. Yılmaz, whose vehicle was rescued, tried to drain the water filling up inside his car. ‘About 50 to 60 cm of water suddenly filled inside the car and we barely saved ourselves,’ said the survivor Zafer Yılmaz, adding, ‘We were on the road between 1 and 2 at night. It started to rain. About 50 to 60 cm of water suddenly filled inside the car. We barely saved ourselves. We took shelter at a bus stop. We called the fire department and they arrived immediately. They rescued us. After changing our clothes, we returned to our car. The Hatay Metropolitan Municipality teams also rescued the car. We safely retrieved the car. Instead of visible damage, there is only a missing trout inside.’
