Another victim has emerged regarding Prof. Dr. Alper Çelik, who has been accused of causing the deaths of many patients with his surgeries and has been temporarily suspended from his profession for 3 years. Hülya Güneri, whose life darkened after being operated by Alper Çelik due to diabetes, stated that she lost approximately 7 centimeters of her intestine during the surgery and underwent a total of 3 operations, expressing, ‘I think I am the only living proof. I luckily did not die. I cannot restore my health. He turned me into a half person.’
The victims of Prof. Dr. Alper Çelik, who is in the agenda with allegations of causing the deaths of his patients and facing legal action, are not ending. One of those victims is Hülya Güneri living in Izmir. Hülya Güneri (56), who works as a manager in a company, was operated by Prof. Dr. Alper Çelik and his team in Istanbul on February 11, 2022, due to diabetes. Güneri’s life darkened after this surgery. Güneri claimed to have lost about 7 centimeters of her intestine after the operation and said, ‘I underwent a total of 3 surgeries. I cannot restore my health. He turned me into a half person.’
“A few days after coming home, my abdomen started to swell” Complaining about Alper Çelik, who was temporarily suspended from his profession for 3 years, Hülya Güneri, who filed a complaint against him, said that 400 internal and 18 external stitches were made as a result of the operations.
Describing the process she went through, Hülya Güneri said, ‘I went to Istanbul to have diabetic surgery. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. I was discharged 5 days later and a few days after coming home, my abdomen started to swell. During that time, I called the hospital, but could not reach the hospital in any way. Then I reached a nurse from that hospital. She told me ‘this is definitely a subcutaneous infection,’ but when my complaints continued, they directed me to a private hospital in Kuşadası. A tomography was taken there. The tomography result also diagnosed me with ‘subcutaneous infection.’ Then the next day, we went to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital. The doctor there told us ‘this is definitely a digestive waste, whoever caused this to you should treat you there.’ We immediately went to Istanbul. They admitted me to the emergency room. Then I was rushed into surgery. They cut my abdomen by 10 centimeters, inserted a camera. No other intervention was made. The problem was also not identified. For 4 days, they tried to solve the problem by inserting gauze into the wound site 4-5 times a day, cleaning it and inserting gauze again.
“I think I am the only living proof who had surgery by Alper Çelik and survived” When the problem was not resolved, Güneri emphasized that she started to lose consciousness and the doctor wanted to take her back to surgery, saying: ‘A doctor said ‘your spouse’s risk of death has started.’ Then they rushed me into surgery. They completely opened my abdomen, found the problematic area. A hole was left in the intestine in the first surgery. During that time, my intestine had rotted by 6-7 centimeters. They cut and removed it, then reconnected it. I went back from the hospital I went for closed surgery with my abdomen exploded. He turned me into a half person.’
“I think I am the only living proof who had surgery by Alper Çelik and survived. I luckily did not die,” said Hülya Güneri continued, “Even though we have reports with Alper Çelik’s signature underneath, unfortunately, we receive a report from the prosecutor stating ‘there is no criminal element.’ I luckily did not die. After coming home, I lay looking at the ceiling for about 2 and a half months. May God bless my husband, he took care of me like a baby. I still have pains. I cannot continue my work. I am not allowed to be sad or cold because when my abdominal muscles tighten, my pains become unbearable. They brought me to this condition from the hospital I went for closed surgery. I am thankful that I did not die. I think I am the only living proof who had surgery by Alper Çelik and survived. My lost intestine cannot be restored. Alper Çelik cannot give me back my health. I filed a compensation lawsuit against him both financially and morally. My concern is not money because money can be earned somehow. I cannot restore my health. He must pay the price in some way. I ask for support from the authorities on this matter.”
