The 105th anniversary of the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms to Havza was celebrated with various events in the district of Havza in Samsun. On May 25, 1919, within the scope of the anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in Havza, an official ceremony was held in Havza. The celebration started with laying wreaths at the Atatürk monument in Mehmetçik Square. Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the official celebration program of May 25 took place at the District Stadium. Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor of Havza, Murat İkiz, stated that the landing of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Samsun on May 19, 1919, was a turning point in Turkish history. He stayed in Havza for 18 days starting from May 25, 1919. During this time, the beginning of the War of Independence and the foundations of the Republic were laid here. The primary reason for Atatürk’s stay in Havza was the secure nature of the region and the support of the ancestors of Havza to Mustafa Kemal. The second reason was Atatürk’s treatment in the Havza thermal springs due to a kidney ailment at that time. Atatürk expressed that he found healing in the Havza thermal springs. The people of Havza fulfilled their duties to a great extent during the National Struggle era. Today, with the same faith and spirit, the people of Havza continue to support Atatürk and our Republic. Havza District Governor, Mustafa Ayvat, emphasized the significant role of Havza in the National Struggle, stating that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Havza on May 25, 1919, and the preparations for the War of Independence started here. The occupation of the country was protested for the first time in rallies held in Havza. We remember and celebrate this historical day, which can be considered as the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence process, with glory and pride once again here today. As part of the National Liberation Struggle Commemoration March, a flag brought from Samsun was handed over to the young people of Havza by the youth participating in the march. The wreath-laying ceremony was also attended by AK Party Samsun Deputy Orhan Kırcalı, Havza Garrison Commander Personnel Second Lieutenant Mücahit Emre Yılmaz, protocol members, political party representatives, and citizens.
