Career Center within the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality organized the ‘Mersin 4.0 Future of Sectors Summit 2’, bringing together sector representatives, civil society organizations representing the business world, professional managers, youth, and university students. At the summit, sector experts shared their knowledge while the components of the labor market came together.

Starting with the presentation by the Career Center Manager Serkan Özada, representatives of some brands held presentations on topics such as ‘Digital Transformation in Retail Sector’, ‘Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence in Logistics Sector’, ‘New World, New Consumer, New Company’.

‘We continue with projects that enable young people to join the business world’
Career Center Manager Özada stated that they have been in collaboration with universities since their establishment. Emphasizing that they continue to work tirelessly on projects that enable young people to enter the business world, Özada noted that they have signed 115 programs to enhance young people’s interaction with the business world and improve the job search process. Pointing out that they have reached thousands of young people within this framework, Özada said, ‘We aim to develop projects with every sector, every profession, and every NGO’.

‘We will bring together all sides of the labor market with the Campus Mersin Project’
Stating that one of the projects Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer wants to realize in the new period is ‘Campus Mersin’, Özada said:
‘We will make an organization that will perhaps be a first in Turkey, maybe even in the world. We are above the Turkish average in terms of unemployment rate. The unemployment rate among young people is nearly twice the average unemployment rate. We want to enhance career guidance, support entrepreneurship culture, provide a result-oriented contribution to university-industry-city cooperation, and create social areas where young people are prepared for the business world. Our facility will be a place where we primarily place young people in work life; where they will participate in workshops, where we instill entrepreneurship culture. With the Campus Mersin Project where the business world can also conduct education, meetings, and interviews, we will prepare young people for a new world by bringing together all sides of the labor market.’

‘Students benefit from experiences’
Rojina Demir, a student at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Toros University, stated that the summit is an event where student stakeholders come together, saying, ‘In this way, we shape our future by developing both business networks and gaining knowledge from our elders and competent individuals.’ Mehmet Şakir Akbay, a student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mersin University, also expressed that such events are useful in terms of introducing themselves to companies. Deniz Yılmaz Uçar, a student at the Department of Transportation and Traffic Services, expressed that the new generation was born in the age of technology and easily adapts to developments, stating that such summits are beneficial for them.
