Ishak Pasha, one of the prominent statesmen of the Ottoman Empire during the reigns of Fatih Sultan Mehmed and 2nd Bayezid, who served as the Grand Vizier, personally participated in the conquest of Istanbul, and witnessed many historical events, was commemorated on the 537th anniversary of his death at the Ishak Pasha Complex where his tomb is located in İnegöl.

The Municipality of İnegöl organized a commemoration program on the 537th anniversary of the death of Ishak Pasha, who is known as one of the symbols of the city and a distinguished statesman of the Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han and 2nd Bayezid periods in the Ottoman era, who actively took part in the conquest of Istanbul, showed heroism, and is recognized for enriching the city with his wealth, especially for the Ishak Pasha Complex he built in İnegöl, which is known from historical sources to have its roots in İnegöl.

The commemoration program for Ishak Pasha, who passed away in 1487 while serving as the Governor of Thessaloniki and whose remains were brought to İnegöl as per his will and buried here, took place on Friday after the afternoon prayer. The commemoration program, which started with the recitation of the Quran, included offerings made in memory of Ishak Pasha. Dr. Associate Professor Sezai Sevim also provided insights into the life of Ishak Pasha through his narratives. The commemoration program, adorned with the performance of the historical İnegöl Mehter band, witnessed great enthusiasm with the marches played.

Addressing the citizens during the commemoration program, Mayor Alper Taban said, “Today, we are both excited and proud. We are gathered here to commemorate Ishak Pasha. We are carrying out a program that we initiated last year as the Municipality of İnegöl and will continue for the second time this year. Some of us were born in this city, some came here to work. In one way or another, we all came together in this city. The Almighty has granted us the opportunity to serve the city we were born in. Therefore, there are many great individuals, statesmen who have contributed from the very beginning to the development of this city. We want them to be recognized. We want them to be remembered with good deeds. Today, to make this more meaningful, we have the esteemed Dr. Associate Professor Sezai Sevim with us. He will provide us with insights into Ishak Pasha. I particularly urge everyone to listen attentively.”

In his speech, Taban also mentioned Ishak Pasha, stating, “Ishak Pasha is an important statesman whom we pass by every day, whose tomb we pass by. He is a valuable elder who served alongside important statesmen of the time such as Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han and 2nd Bayezid. Ishak Pasha held many significant positions. What caught my attention is his significant contributions alongside the sultans of that period and his important role in the conquest of Istanbul. He showed usefulness in the capture of Istanbul. He built many works in İnegöl and other cities. I also find valuable the efforts of Ishak Pasha in terms of municipal services, especially in meeting the water needs of İnegöl. It is known that he brought water to the center of İnegöl and built numerous fountains. We commemorate him with mercy on the 537th anniversary of his passing this year. Today, we live in peace on these lands left to us by our elders. Some paid the price for these matters before us. Hopefully, we can progress on the path that they paved for us, worthy of them.”

In his speech, District Governor Eren Arslan expressed his gratitude to the Mayor and his team for carrying out such an important and meaningful work. He emphasized that our wealth is not only material possessions but also the values we carry from the past to the present, making us stronger. He mentioned the significance of İnegöl in terms of spiritual wealth, being the first lands conquered in the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, the burial place of many Ottoman commanders in these lands, and the presence of Ishak Pasha right next to us. He hoped that by displaying management and work in a manner befitting our ancestors, we would be able to entrust a much more prosperous country to future generations.
