The Maternity Symposium, organized by Ankara Chamber of Commerce and led by Koru Hospital, attracted a great deal of interest from expert doctors in the field of maternity. The ‘Maternity Symposium’ was held to create awareness in society about maternity, to emphasize the importance of valuing the physical and mental health of mothers and expectant mothers, and to inform people about the sociological significance of maternity. During the symposium, hosted by Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) and Koru Hospital, it was highlighted that maternity is not only about giving birth, but a broad concept.
Prior to the symposium, in statements to Ihlas News Agency, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Prof. Dr. Aydan Biri expressed that she believes the concept of motherhood will be interpreted differently by each individual at the end of this symposium. Biri emphasized that motherhood is influenced by culture, society, and legal aspects, encompassing a wide range of variables beyond the biological aspect of giving birth.
“Many roles loaded environmentally are also considered as part of motherhood”. Biri, who has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for 36 years and has interacted with thousands of mothers, stated that many roles loaded environmentally are also considered as part of motherhood. She mentioned that the symposium will discuss the social and cultural roles imposed on mothers, as well as the support women need during these roles.
“We are a civil society organization striving to ensure that babies are born into the environment they deserve”. Another doctor participating in the symposium, Prof. Dr. Fatma Deniz Sayıner, highlighted the importance of discussing motherhood comprehensively. She stated that the symposium will address all dimensions of motherhood, emphasizing that it will be a unique event in Turkey.
Sayıner pointed out that there is no need for any qualifications to become a parent, but there are many aspects of parenthood that need to be learned, discussed, and understood. She emphasized the importance of preparing mothers for parenting, managing the process of becoming a healthy parent and family, and guiding them in the right direction.
Dr. Serkan Karaismailoğlu, who attended the symposium to talk about the mother’s brain, expressed that a valuable scientific symposium was held. He appreciated the openness and accessibility of the event to the public, stating that the symposium organized by the Nature of Birth Association is important for providing knowledge and support to mothers preparing for parenthood.
