Speaking to an IHA reporter here, Tamer Karadaoğlı, the General Director of State Theaters, stated that Van is a city that attracts a lot of attention on its own, ‘Van is one of the most beautiful cities in our country with its natural texture and people. I had been to Van before, but it has been a long time. I am very happy to be here again.’ Karadağlı emphasized that this year’s 21st Akdamar Children and Youth Theater Festival received much more interest compared to previous years, ‘Van State Theater was established in 1997 and has been gaining more and more interest each year. One of the best parts is that this year, the audience number, which is normally 60-65 thousand, reached over 90 thousand. This is an example of how interested the Van audience is in theater.’ Karadağlı, who stated that they have projects to develop the theater art in Van, said that this will be seen in the future. ‘We will introduce Van’s cultural diversity and history through theater.’ Responding to the question of the IHA reporter, ‘Do you consider staging theater plays in historical sites or outdoor stages in Van?’, Karadağlı said, ‘We definitely consider it. We will continue to stage our theater plays not only in Van but also in outdoor theaters and ancient cities all around Turkey. In addition, we will hold meetings to introduce Van’s cultural diversity and history through theater. We will discuss what can be done. Every corner of Turkey is imbued with culture. Van is one of the most beautiful cities. We will do whatever is necessary.’
