Eyüpsultan Municipality Art and Vocational Training Courses (ESMEK) not only provide employment opportunities for women but also serve as their psychological and social support. Having struggled with various illnesses for many years and also losing her husband during this period, 58-year-old Mamure Fil found a new lease on life through the Rice ESMEK courses. Mamure, who has been attending multiple courses for four years, stated, ‘Here, I socialized and learned new things. I forgot about my health problems, I was almost rehabilitated.’ Eyüpsultan Municipality’s Art and Vocational Training Courses (ESMEK), among the special projects for women, enable women to participate in the workforce by harnessing their efforts. Furthermore, ESMEK courses sometimes become a therapy center for them and sometimes a place where they relieve stress and socialize amidst the hustle and bustle of life. One of these individuals is Mamure Fil, aged 58. Having battled illnesses for many years and undergone 9 surgeries during this process, Mamure, also known as Aunt Mamure, found a new lease on life with ESMEK. Dealing with her own health issues and recently losing her husband, Pirinççi ESMEK became a therapy center where she could relieve stress and socialize. Mamure Fil, who said that her life has completely changed with ESMEK, stated, ‘I struggled with health problems for many years. I underwent 9 surgeries, 4 of which were on my spine. I still have 10 screws in my spine. I also lost my husband during this process. While going through all these pains, I met ESMEK and it was very good for me. I made new friends, gained a new environment for myself. I socialized and learned new things here. It also greatly helped my psychology. I forgot about my health problems, I was almost rehabilitated.’ Mamure Fil, who has been attending Pirinççi ESMEK for four years, mentioned that she initially took beekeeping training and later participated in lace winding, needlework, and home textile trainings. She said, ‘I come here two days a week. I use what I make here at home, prepare dowry for my granddaughter. I don’t realize how time flies. Our instructors are very good. There is a very nice atmosphere of friendship. If I hadn’t come here, I could have given up on life, this place kept me on my feet. I recommend it to everyone. Especially our young people should definitely come here. With the trainings they receive, they can establish their own businesses and financially support their families.’
