Experts warned that those who take their pets to forested areas should be more careful against ticks. In addition to wild animals, experts also warned about the risk of pets carrying ticks from one area to another. Veterinarian Fatih Koç stated that pet owners who take their animals to green areas and forested areas should be more careful against ticks. Koç emphasized the importance of checking for ticks on both the pet and the owner after returning home. He also mentioned the necessity of vaccinating pets every 1-2 months, stating that there is a possibility of pets carrying ticks when they are taken outside. Koç recommended administering internal and external parasite control treatments for pets to prevent tick infestations. He highlighted that ticks are carriers of bacteria and viruses, posing significant risks to both pets and humans.
Koç stressed the importance of checking pets for ticks after taking them for a walk and returning home, as ticks might be present on the pets, on the owners, or on their clothes. He warned that bringing ticks into the home could potentially harm loved ones. By conducting regular checks on both pets and themselves, individuals can take preventive measures to protect against tick-borne diseases.
Highlighting the risks associated with ticks, Koç mentioned that Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever was first observed in Crimea. He emphasized that wherever ticks are present, there is a risk of this disease. He cited an incident in Spain where the disease caused the deaths of thousands of people. Koç explained that ticks themselves are not deadly, but the viruses they carry can be. Therefore, he advised that every tick can be considered a potential carrier of microbes, underscoring the importance of conducting regular checks for ticks.
