The elderly man who was beaten by the school principal was laid to rest amidst tears

The funeral of disabled Ramazan Polat, who was beaten by the school principal and his son on a bus they boarded to go to the hospital at the end of last year in Mersin and passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at the hospital, was buried amidst tears. On December 15, 2023, on the bus heading to Mersin City Hospital, Ismet T., the principal of a high school in Tarsus district, and his son A.O.T. (17), assaulted Ramazan Polat (77) and his wife Hamdiye Polat (71), who had a pacemaker, could not fully use the right side of his body due to paralysis, and suffered from kidney failure. The moments were captured by the security camera. The victim of the incident, Ramazan Polat, passed away yesterday at Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Hospital where he was taken due to his illness. Polat, who had been receiving treatment at the hospital for about 2 weeks, was bid farewell on his final journey amidst tears today. Ramazan Polat’s body was taken from the morgue of Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Hospital by his relatives and brought to the front of his house in Barbaros Neighborhood in central Yenişehir district for the last time. After receiving forgiveness, Polat was buried in Afetevler Cemetery following the funeral prayer performed at Molla Mosque. The incident took place on December 15, 2023, on a bus heading to Mersin City Hospital in central Toroslar district. Ismet T., the principal of a high school in Tarsus district, and his son A.O.T. (17) argued with Ramazan Polat (77), who had a pacemaker, could not fully use the right side of his body due to paralysis, and suffered from kidney failure, and his wife Hamdiye Polat (71). During the argument, first A.O.T. and then his father attacked the elderly couple. Following the incident captured second by second by the bus’s security camera, on January 17, 2024, school principal Ismet T. was arrested, and after the images of the assault were revealed on February 28, 2024, the principal’s son A.O.T. was detained again, and after the procedures at the police station, he was arrested by the court. Mersin Provincial Directorate of National Education announced that the school principal in question was suspended as of January 17 and an administrative investigation was initiated after the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was informed about the incident. The school principal Ismet T. was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month, and 15 days in prison in a later trial, and considering the time he spent in custody, he was released. The trial for his son A.O.T. is still ongoing.
