Parents protest truck driving training in front of elementary school

Parents and students reacted to the truck driving training given in front of the primary school in Adana.

Parents showed their reaction to the driving course trainings given in front of Yahya Kemal Beyatlı 100th Year Primary School in the central Yüreğir district of Adana, stating that they are dangerous for children. Worried parents, pointing out that there are two other schools in the area besides the primary school, are expecting a solution from the authorities regarding the driving courses located in the region where the student population is dense.

“Driving courses have invaded this place”

Kemal Tekin, who drops off his 7-year-old daughter to school every morning, said, “In the mornings when we drop off our child, the traffic flow here is very heavy, so the vehicles of the driving courses pose a great danger here. I am calling out to the authorities, God forbid something happens to our children, something could happen to us too. We cannot cross the street. We are in a lot of trouble. They need to take precautions. Driving courses, trucks, and lorries are causing a lot of disturbance here. We cannot cross the street in front of and in front of the school, it becomes very dangerous. My child is currently in first grade. I worry when we cross the street together. There is an excessive intensity in the mornings. When trucks and vehicles join, this place becomes dangerous. Driving courses have invaded this place. This is not a parking lot, this is the front of the school,” he said.

Mustafa Çizer, a parent who noted that there are many students in the area due to the presence of 3 schools, said, “Trainee drivers are already novices. When they park their vehicles, it becomes dangerous for children. There are also motorcycle trainers in the future. There are 3 schools on this street. This is the place with the highest probability of accidents. When the parent is with the child, they can drop them off at school smoothly, but there are children without parents. This street has a very high probability of accidents. I will report this situation to the governorship and to the necessary places, including Cimer. Nowadays, licensed drivers have accidents, and these are trainee drivers. All those who will get a license are novices,” he said.

“We are worried about our children”

Another parent, Aysel Günaydın, said, “We complain about these trucks and driving courses, the novices themselves. This has become a well-known driving course area. There are 3 schools nearby. The children who come out go in different directions. Some families pick up their children after school, but some do not. This time, we are worried about our children. We have to come here constantly with the thought that something might happen to our children. When we come, there are trucks, novice drivers. There was a motorcycle accident here in the past. Children are confused about what to do. They are younger, first and second grades. How can they protect themselves? If you saw those huge trucks, you would be surprised. Can a truck be placed in front of the school? We want our voices to be heard,” she said.
