SAMSUN (İHA) – Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel promised CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who visited him, that he would not embarrass those who believe in him. Özel also expressed his support for Mayor Türkel. The CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel, who came to the city for the celebrations of May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day and the first MYK meeting of CHP to be held in Samsun, visited Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel at his office. Speaking during the visit, Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel said, ‘It is an honor and a pride to host you at Atakum Municipality. We are glad to host you with our brand-new municipal services on the 105th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk starting the national liberation struggle by stepping into Samsun, on May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Welcome everyone. I was fortunate enough to become the mayor in Atakum. I received the vote of one out of every two people living in Atakum. I will work to be worthy of this trust first, and then to get the votes of two out of every three people, I will not embarrass those who believe in me. We are very happy to spend May 19th with you in Samsun.’
Özel: ‘We will succeed together’ After the visit, CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel said, ‘There has been a change of guard at Atakum Municipality. Now, Atakum will be governed by a CHP member again. Our young friend, who is 41 years old, will bring dynamism to Atakum. He will complete his 5-year term by leaving very important services and gains that will be remembered in the future in Atakum. If the people of Atakum are satisfied, he will continue his duty, otherwise, as before, there will be a change of guard. But we have high hopes for Mayor Serhat Türkel and his team. We wish him success. This is not just a place where CHP members work, we also wish success to the municipal council members of other political parties. We talked, he made commitments. His first goal is to reach two-thirds, a 65-66% vote rate. Today, he promised a process where those who did not vote for him but supported him with his fair, transparent, honest, and populist municipalism, where two out of every three people in Atakum voted for him. I aim to make the Party of the Veteran the first party in Samsun. Everyone will know their responsibilities and work accordingly. We will succeed together.’ Özel was accompanied by CHP Samsun Deputy Murat Çan, CHP Samsun Provincial Chairman Mehmet Özdağ, party central executive board members, women’s branch central executive board members, and party council members during the visit.
