“Youngsters, you are the most valuable assets of this country”
In his speech before the concert, Mayor Bahçetepe said, “Today, we are here to celebrate the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on this happy day when the torch of independence of the Turkish nation was first lit, and when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot in Samsun. After every corner of Anatolia was occupied following the First World War, when our nation was helpless, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun on May 19 aboard the Bandırma Ferry on May 16, 1919. At that moment, the sun rising from Samsun started to illuminate all of Anatolia. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk declared to the whole world that our nation would not live under captivity on that day. On that day, the epic struggle for freedom and independence, led by our heroes filled with patriotism, started in Samsun. This sacred march initiated by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk not only provided us with an independent homeland but also opened the way to a brighter future. This struggle, achieved with the determination to protect the honor and dignity of the Turkish nation, regardless of gender, age, young or old, is a battle won through the sacrifice of everyone. This victory is the greatest evidence of the Turkish nation’s love for independence and freedom, the resistance, and the spirit of revival. Today, I wholeheartedly salute the determination, creativity, and faith in our country of our youth, who have been entrusted with the gift of Atatürk. Youngsters, you are the most valuable assets of this country. We will reach the bright tomorrows that Turkey longs for through you. Atatürk said, ‘O rising new generation, the future is yours. We established the Republic, and you are the ones who will elevate and sustain it.’ On this special day, we will elevate this enthusiasm to its peak with the concert of our beloved artist Emre Aydın.
