Muratpaşa Municipality Mayor Uysal met with young people

Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal in Antalya stated during his meeting with young people at the Meltem Campus Study Center garden, ‘We are the municipality that established Antalya’s first innovation center. That place is a home for all new ideas, new initiatives.’ Mayor Ümit Uysal met with students from the Social Climate Association and the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Literature at Akdeniz University for a discussion on ‘climate crisis.’ During the discussion, the young people sat on large cushions in the study center’s garden and asked Uysal questions. Muratpaşa has received the ‘Best Environmental Education Activities’ award 9 times. Mayor Uysal mentioned that they have implemented the Environmental Neighbor Card project, which is a first in Turkey under sustainable environmental projects, and also carried out awareness-raising activities such as festivals, workshops, and underwater cleanups. As a result of these efforts, Mayor Uysal stated that they have been honored with the ‘Best Environmental Education Activities’ award by the Turkish Foundation for Environmental Education (TÜRÇEV) for 9 consecutive times. University students mentioned that they have carried out various projects on climate crisis and environment, while Mayor Uysal stated that they could establish a Youth Working Platform in Abdullah Sevimçok Civil Society and Innovation Centers (ASSİM). Mayor Uysal, who said they are always open to supporting new ideas, continued his words as follows: ‘We are the municipality that established Antalya’s first innovation center. ASSİM became operational in 2016. We support startups there. It serves as a kind of incubation center. That place is a home for all new ideas, new initiatives. We are looking for angel investors. We need people to support new ideas. We frequently organize competitions. We continue our struggle. Whoever has made an invention related to the environment will definitely find us in Antalya. We are always open to supporting new ideas.’ After the discussion, Mayor Uysal signed the ‘Pledge to Become a Young Climate-Friendly Mayor’ and the ‘Milan Urban Food Policy Pact Participation Letter.
