Within the framework of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19, organized by Büyükçekmece Municipality, the ’19 May Youth Walk’ and the ’37th Ata Youth Concert’ took place. The enthusiastic crowd first walked from Albatros Coast to City Square, then enjoyed themselves at the concert featuring Rap music artist Eypio.
Büyükçekmece Municipality organized the ’19 May Youth Walk’ and the ’37th Ata Youth Concert’ within the framework of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. The ’19 May Youth Walk’ took place with the participation of thousands of people from Büyükçekmece, from 7 to 77 years old. Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün, who greeted the Büyükçekmece people during the walk from Albatros Coast to the Municipality City Square, celebrated the youth’s holiday. In the youth walk, which attracted great interest, citizens carrying Turkish flags sang national anthems together. The walk, accompanied by boats from the sea, turned into a colorful and enthusiastic parade. The walk ended at the Municipality City Square, where the traditional Ata Youth Concert took place with Eypio on stage. In the concert attended by thousands of young people, the youth sang along with Eypio’s songs and celebrated the holiday dedicated to them. During the concert that lasted until late hours, young people occasionally took the stage to dance and sing with Eypio. After the concert, Mayor Akgün presented a model of the Mimar Sinan Bridge to the famous musician.

“If we do not know our past well, we cannot be a light to the future”
Speaking about the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün said, “If we can listen to artists freely under this flag, there are reasons for it. May 19 is a holiday bestowed upon the Turkish youth by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who decided not to hand over this country to imperialists, set out with this ideal on May 19, 1919. May 19 is the day when the foundation of the Republic of Turkey began to be laid. It is the day when the pains of the Republic began. It is the day when Atatürk was born and when all the youth were born. May 19 is the day when the torch of liberation was lit. You know all the processes. May 19 followed by the War of Independence and then the declaration of the Republic. If we do not learn these well, if we do not know our past well, we will have a deficiency in being a light to the future. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is our leader, the leader of Turkey, but also the leader of all oppressed countries. Having such a leader makes us different from other countries. If we have a leader like Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we do not need anything else, we just need to work.”

“We are always at the service of our youth and children”
Continuing his speech by emphasizing that the youth are the future of the country, Akgün said, “I commemorate with gratitude and respect all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect our flag, our country, our language, to ensure that this Republic stands strong until today, starting with the founder of our country, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Greetings to the Turkish youth. Everything is valuable to the guardians of the Republic, the Turkish youth. We are always at your service. We are at the service of our youth, our children. You are the future of this country.”
